Just under a week to go until this year’s Tenement Trail Festival takes place in the East side of Glasgow with over 50 of the most exciting upcoming bands/ musicians performing over 11 venues. The festival is the best way to discover all kinds of new genres within the line-up. Here’s a preview of some of the bands we can’t wait to see perform at the Tenement Trail this year.
Vida
I’ve seen Vida, the Alloa born indie 5 piece, twice already this year and it’s insane how well they come together. For fans of Oasis, Stone Roses, Shed Seven – Vida are that kind of alternative 90s rock but with their own unique style. Their songs are like an addiction, as soon as you hear them, you’ll just want to listen to them over and over again. Songs like, ‘Fade Away’, ‘Where We Came From’, ‘Take it Easy’ and ‘A Place Where We Can Forget’ will inevitably have the crowd singing along creating an incredible atmosphere. They always bring a strong support, with their loyal fan base continuing to grow. We recently premiered their latest single, 'When The Sun' here at Discovery Music which brought a new sense of style to the band. A more acoustic stripped back version from what we’re used to but as soon as I heard it, I fell in love with it. Beautiful lyrics that demonstrate the true talent Vida have as not only a live band but as song writers which is so important in today’s music industry. If you haven’t seen them before then their set at Tenement Trail is a must… Check them out at The Barrowlands from 18.00!
Fabric Bear
With the successful release of their latest E.P, ‘Waste My Time’ and being nominated for this year’s ‘Best Rock/ Alternative award’ at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMA’s), it’s been some year for Edinburgh based indie trio, Fabric Bear! It’s insane considering the band have only released three songs but that just shows the potential the band have. I’ve heard a lot of good things about them so I’m looking forward to seeing them perform live on Saturday! You can see them at BAad from 17.45!
BETA WAVES
Beta Waves, an electronic pop duo are a must for a day festival. Their feel-good music will get anyone hyped up for a party! With their first single of the year, ‘AD LIB’ being released the day before Tenement Trail – it’s likely we’ll be the first crowd to hear the new material live – how exciting! With previous festival slots, at this year’s Belladrum and EH6 Festival, it’s clear the Dundonians know how to get a crowd going. Catch them at 16.45 at BaAD …
The Naked Feedback
Scottish rock band, The Naked Feedback have had a great year so far with the release of not one but three new singles over the space of nine months. ‘The Goodbye’, ‘Smoke Without Fire’ and ‘Silent Disco’ all have their own individual focus but with The Naked Feedback’s unique rock style. I feel there’s a lack of Scottish Rock music in my generation at the moment so it’s great to see a band who fit into that style. I’ve yet to see The Naked Feedback live so looking forward to seeing what they bring to TT this year. Pop into Saint Luke’s at 17.15pm to see them…
Luna the Professor
I’m incredibly thrilled for Wishaw’s four piece, Luna The Professor having a slot at this year’s TT. I first seen the indie band at the start of the year where they headlined Saint Lukes. They’re the type of the band in which you just see the passion they have for music instantly as soon they step on stage. It’s insane how far the band have come already at such a young age. If this is the talent they have just now, can you imagine how they’ll be in a few years time?! Their latest single, ‘Dreamers’ is a crowd favourite – with it’s catchy bassline and feel-good lyrics. A band definitely worth checking out on Saturday…. See them play Barrowland 2 at 17.30 – 18.00pm
Sea Girls
With countless festival appearances over the summer and the release of three new songs this year, Sea Girls have quickly become one of my favourite bands. They write the type of songs that instantly reel you in. Their lyrics focus on love and heartbreak all at the same time. On a personal level, I relate a lot to the lyrics of their songs which is just so fulfilling when listening to them. Songs like, ‘All I Want To Hear You Say’, ‘Damage Done’ and ‘Closer’ can help turn heartbreak into happiness. Although their lyrics can relate to break-ups/ heartbreaks etc, their music itself creates this sense of joyfulness that will immediately grip you. Sea Girls are a band that just make me feel genuinely excited when listening to…. So much talent and this is only the start. See them perform their headlining slot at Saint Luke’s from 21:15
Fatherson
Another incredible headlining slot for this year’s TT. I seen Killmarnock indie rock trio for the first time this year at their sold-out O2 Academy Show and I still get goose bumps thinking about it. I went to the gig knowing only a few songs and leaving with a new favourite band. They have this high quality in their performances where everything is just so professionally done. A band who really thrive on their live performances. With three strong albums, their setlists give fans an excellent variety. Certain songs such as, ‘An Island’, ‘Foreign Waters’, ‘Joanna’ and ‘The Rain’ tend to leave the crowd in absolute silence. The type of silence you could hear a pin drop… those type of songs that you get so incredibly lost in. Then you get songs such as, ‘I Like Not Knowing,’ , ‘Making Waves’, ‘Charm School’ and ‘Forest’ that emphasise the rockiness of the band. They go from one extreme to another in the space of five minutes, but it just works so well. They’re the type of band, regardless of your music taste, everyone needs to see at least once! See them headline this year’s TT at The Barrowlands from 21:15 …
