Edinburgh quartet ‘The Motion Poets’ have stormed back into our playlists with their latest release ‘Speak No Evil’. Having seen the indie/grunge band twice now at both the Voodoo Rooms and Sneaky Pete’s, I had high expectations for the bands progress.
They did not disappoint, having had a slight absence from the Scottish music scene, they burst back into our ears with ‘Speak No Evil’.
This tune really plays on the indie influences of the band, with some sounds similar to Catfish & The Bottlemen and other indie icons. However, the band remain true to themselves and keep to their own sound despite these influences, showcasing how unique they are.
The song is a true representation of how far the band have come in such a short while, with such rhythmic and musical accuracy. The Motion Poets are also not afraid to experiment, something proving popular among up and coming artists, featuring an eerie synth throughout but keeping the heavy drumming in the chorus to keep to the bands style.
I would say this track is a lot softer than what we are used to from the Poets, with their other two notable tracks ‘One Too Many’ and a ‘A Girl Like This’ being a lot heavier and grungier. One focus that is prominent throughout all three tracks, however, is the use of small guitar riffs which make the tracks catchy and what they are.
‘Speak No Evil’ shows that the band are trying to go different places with their music and develop their sound and I have no doubt they are destined for great things.
