SINGLE REVIEW | THE LINKS | 'LAST LINE'

Crashing onto the digital airwaves on the 6th of September, fresh new band The Links released their debut single ‘Last Line’ on Wee Records Edinburgh.

Cover design by Kieran Wylie

Although The Links are relatively new to the Scottish music scene, they’ve created quite the buzz so far. ‘Last Line’ tells the tale of a situation which many of us have been in, that ominous feeling of trying to grab someone’s attention across the room while simultaneously going unnoticed. Now, the lyrics might depict a scenario where grabbing the attention of the girl is somewhat difficult but, the song itself is definitely head turning.

The band come in strong with a perfectly timed intro before lead singer Alex Duncan bursts in with confident and clear-cut vocals. The Links tick all the boxes with this track, its fiery unwavering lyrics don’t slow down, with the track powerful in portraying an almost powerless situation. With a stable and perfectly rhythmic beat from drummer Ross Dickson throughout, the story of the situation continues to unfold and keeps you guessing as to how it will turn out.

In their short time of breaking into the Scottish music scene, The Links have undoubtedly found their style as ‘Last Line’ oozes passion, eagerness and the kind of zeal you expect from big names in the industry. The tune builds up to a commendable instrumental, with guitarist Scott Williamson and bassist Alex Christie adding a spirited yet somewhat nostalgic tone to the track.

The Links have been in very good company lately with ‘Last Line’ mastered by Pete Maher, who has worked with some of the hottest names in music from The Rolling Stones to Noel Gallagher. The track was produced by Eggman Studios which is quickly becoming a staple studio for members of the Scottish music scene.

Overall, ‘Last Line’ is a standout track which will inevitably serve as a catalyst in the successful career The Links are building for themselves as a band. We hope to see a lot more from the boys because if ‘Last Line’ is anything to go by, you’ll be hearing even more buzz about the band very soon.
