You might have formerly known them as The Love Affair, and while Dundee lads The Rositas may have changed their name, thankfully they have not changed their trademark sound. ‘Movin’ Shakin’’ was released on the 29th of March with their classic old school rock ‘n’ roll style. The band have had some great attention from the Scottish music scene having previously played a gig for fellow music scene supporters, This Feeling, with the band also receiving a nod from the Evening Telegraph after their name change.
‘Movin’ Shakin’’ begins strongly while at the same time easing you into the track before the guitar rhythms create a build-up and a confident burst of laughter seeps in through the instrumentals. Some impressive drumming creates a backing rhythm for the track which combined with the guitars in the song, sets the scene for a solid and substantially inviting tune.
The vocals on the track strike the listener as being heavily influenced by the great rock ‘n’ roll legends of the past from the 60’s and 70’s. The tune also has a blues vibe intertwined with the old school sound which really adds something special to the song. The lyrics of ‘Movin’ Shakin’’ are self-assured with lyrics such as “If you want it scream and shout” and “We’ll kick the doors down out of spite”. One of the best things about ‘Movin’ Shakin’’ is that the lyrics are not overpowered by the instruments, they’re clear and very confident.
Nearing the end of the track, there is a very well-done instrumental part with some of the best guitar sounds I’ve heard from a Scottish band lately. This particular part of the song reminds me of The Doors, also with the same bold guitar infusions as 60’s and 70‘s rockers, Free. A powerful “Yeah” fades into the track before the lyrics “Movin’, Shakin’” are heard again and as the tune comes to an end with those lyrics, it adds the perfect abrupt finish to the song.
Coming in at just over two and a half minutes, ‘Movin’ Shakin’’ is a proper reminder of old school rock ‘n‘ roll, full of influence from some of the greats while still maintaining a lot of its own character and being full of self-pride. The release of ‘Movin Shakin’’ also comes with a bonus track called ‘I Can’t Help It’ which I definitely recommend you also check out.
The Rositas are destined for great success within the Scottish scene and we are very glad to see them flourishing with some of the best talent Scotland has to offer. If ‘Movin’ Shakin’’ is anything to go by, we are sure we’ll be hearing a lot more buzz for The Rositas in the very near future.
