SINGLE REVIEW | THE MURDER CAPITAL - 'Green & Blue'

The Murder Capital are everything you never knew you wanted from a post-punk band. Though not from Scotland, the Dublin quintet have been storming the Scottish and UK music scene, mesmerising crowds with their brooding and intense stage presence and business-like attire. Their new single, ‘Green & Blue’ is dark and dangerously impressive.

Released on the 25th of April, the single is the second song the band has ever put out and was eagerly anticipated. Introducing the track is a raw throbbing drum beat which forms the skeleton of the song. Its repetitiveness is brought to life with electric shocks from the charged guitar as the song begins to rev up. The angular guitar riff emits a pulsing energy just before lead singer, James McGovern’s, ominous vocals are heard. The melancholic lyrics are as honest as they are thrilling.

The intensity of the song increases as it rumbles on, creating an atmosphere similar to their enthralling performances. The second half of the tune teases a hazier sound, with the vocals changing from soft and wistful to a demanding snarl, an admirable talent. The motif at the end slows everything down with an eerie distance that leaves you wanting more.

The ‘Green & Blue’ release was accompanied by a video directed by Ethan Barrett and Tom Gullam. Featuring the band members themselves, its ghostly depiction of isolation is deeply moving and will have the hair standing on the back of your neck.

The band are currently on a tour spreading across the UK as well as a few European dates at the beginning. To catch them in Scotland you’ll have to head to NICE N SLEAZY in Glasgow on Tuesday the 14th of May, for what I’m sure will be another menacing performance.

Keep up to date with more tour dates and new releases via the band’s socials and their website.
