From a headline gig at the Mash House on Saturday to the release of their latest single, ‘Dispute (Hold on)’, The Bright Skies, a four-piece Indie rock band from Edinburgh have had an exciting few months. Heavily influenced from the 90’s classic era of Oasis and Stone Roses, The Bright Skies made up of Liam McLennan (Lead Vocals & Rhythmic Guitar), Kallan Glynn (Lead Guitar and Back-up vocals), Frankie Linn (Bass Guitar) & Blair Russell- Simpson (Drums) have a clear talent within the Scottish music industry.
‘Dispute (Hold On)’ was released last Friday via Spotify. Starting with an edgy guitar riff and a phenomenal drum beat, as soon as I heard it, I instantly loved it. It’s one of those songs that you just need to listen to once for it to make an impression. As soon as I heard I knew straight away I wanted to review it. It’s the type of bands like Bright Skies that made me want to be a music blogger… the type of the bands you hear that you just instantly want to write about!
As soon as the vocals came in to play, it automatically reminded me of Frightened Rabbit. You can hear the emotion in Liam’s voice which makes the single even more special. There’s a lyric towards the end of the song: ‘so wake up from your dream, no matter how dark it seems’ and the tempo changes suddenly creating such a liberating effect! As soon as I heard it, I had to listen to it again....
It was recently announced that The Bright Skies will be part of the ATM Music Summer show in Edinburgh alongside the very talented Brownbear & Billy Mitchell – what a line up!! I’m really excited to see what else they have in store for us – hopefully they announce a Glasgow gig soon as well!
