SINGLE REVIEW | SHADOW OF THE BIG HAND| OPHELIA LIES

Electronic duo Ophelia Lies has been attracting attention lately whether it be from collaborating with the students of New College Lanarkshire to being praised by the Scotsman as “an act to listen out for”. At this point, they had only released one song.

Shadow of the Big Hand their second single was released last week. It truly seems to be the perfect time to unveil the song as it is a perfect addition to your Summer playlist. The song feels destined to be played during the last warm nights of Summer before the cold air of September ushers in routine and normalcy.

The songs relaxed vocals tell of the stories of the narrators past present and future as well as their quest to find a sense of self before time changes their circumstances once more.

By layering the hushed vocals with a pulsing techno beat it helps Shadow of the Big Hand become a joyous track which makes you just want to dance. The track sounds like it would be even more infectious live.

I believe the track to have a perfect ending. As a listener, we naturally assume once the tropical house beat fades that the song must be over yet Ophelia Lies leaves us with two ethereal sounding final unexpected notes to bring us full circle, time cannot change everything.
