SINGLE REVIEW | SAHARA - 'FOLLOW ON' | (15.03.19)

If you love a tune that makes you want to rock out in your bedroom and excessively play the air guitar, then look no further than 'Follow On' by SAHARA. The blossoming four-piece band from Dundee are continuing to grow and experiment with their sounds. Prior to the release of their new single, they have their debut EP 'SAHARA' which had three songs that all have a different feel but they all make you want to bop along. There was also two singles released in 2018: 'Never Get the Time' and 'In Sufficiency'. SAHARA have been touring and even played at the first ever TRNSMT festival in 2017 which was a huge step for them in their career. Following the success and an increasing number of plays on Spotify, they are back in 2019 and may I add, they are back with a bang!

Personally, I have been loving this track. I have had this on in my car on repeat since I was luckily given a sneaky listen before the release this Friday. This is my new driving jam. It starts off with a strong melodic guitar riff and this is held throughout the whole song. When you listen, you automatically think of melodic songs from the eighties from bands such as Joy Division and The Cure, it sounds like there's some influence of that in there and I love it, it gives it a retro and almost nostalgic feel. They have added their own essence to this feel which has made it incredibly modern and why I think it'll be extremely captivating to listen to for some.

'Follow On' has an extremely upbeat and catchy chorus that you can easily sing along to after a few listens. The chorus quietens down towards the end of the song and you can really hear the emotion of the lyrics as the vocals are softer but then it kicks straight back into the loud and cheery riff. I can just picture listening to this live at summer festival living my best life and singing along at the top of my lungs carefree. This has got me excited for Spring and Summer as it automatically makes me associate it with being out in the sun and feeling joyous and untroubled.

I strongly believe that this single will do well and will be a big hit over the next few months, it's the ideal song for the introduction of spring and the summer festival scene. Additionally, it has the perfect blend of rich and soft vocals and catchy riffs that immediately hook you in from the first second of the single.

Since they formed in 2015, they have had a great four years as a band when it comes to tours, track and EP releases and playing at one of Scotlands biggest festivals. I am sure that will be making many more appearances at summer festivals and you can catch them live because you wouldn't want to miss out on that (I know that I definitely wouldn't want to). They are definitely one that you should listen to and I can assure you that you won't regret it, they will be added to your favourite playlist in no time, facts are facts!
