SINGLE REVIEW | LUKE LA VOLPE - 'CAN'T SEEM TO GET ENOUGH'

Luke La Volpe is a band consisting of four members, Luke Gibson, Ben MacDonald, Ewan Butler and Colm Boyle.  Having formed mid-2017, the band have kept active playing many shows supporting big names such as Gerry Cinnamon and The Alabama 3. With three previous releases on Spotify each being received well with several thousand listens, most notably ‘Judging Books’ which sits comfortably above 20,000 listens.

Luke La Volpe’s newest release follows closely the style that fans of the band will be accustomed to, strong rock ’n’ roll, blues inspired guitar based music. With the title “Can’t Seem To Get Enough” accurately depicting the lyrical content throughout the song it is immediately clear that it is about the bands insatiable desire to play their music to as many people as they can in order to share their experiences and feelings whilst also tackling the all too familiar writers block that many musicians face on a sometimes daily basis.

The song itself is very reminiscent of an Arctic Monkeys ‘AM’ sound and due to this may be lacking in the individualistic character that it has the potential to achieve. Production is of top quality, as is expected due to the high quality of their previous releases, which keeps the song captivating for listeners whilst also allowing them to be easily accessible for new listeners. The guitar and bass in the music are prominent throughout, building dynamics very well throughout to the climactic finish of the song, it’s something people will want to jump about to. The sharp tone of the guitar and pulsing softer bass tone compliment each other extremely well and work together to create large riffs to fill out the bulk of the track.

Luke Gibson’s vocal performance is powerful and theatric, showing off an impressive range from the quieter low pitched sections of the song to the louder sing along sections, although it may be a vocal style that we’ve heard before, it is a tried and tested sound that has proven to be successful for many. Colm Boyle’s drums may be an unexpected highlight, though never too complex, he is a clear power drummer that through his playing dynamic raises the song from beginning to end, constantly pushing the song that bit further.

I believe Can’t Seem To Get Enough can thrive in Glasgow’s revitalised guitar based music scene, and having the name of the song being the lyrics throughout the chorus and end section of the song will allow listeners at live shows to get the song stuck in their heads whilst being able to find it easily after the show on Spotify.

All in all, Can’t Seem To Get Enough is a solid song that is well written, the main vocals are complimented well with   excellent backing vocals and great performances from each member on the song. It comes through in the sound that time and care went into the writing and recording process. I look forward to seeing what come’s for Luke La Volpe and to hearing their sound adapt through further releases as the band continue to evolve and expand their fan base.
