A track which takes you on an entrancing and absorbing journey, FAUNA’s new single ‘Creed’ defines the peak of raw Glasgow music talent.
Being their latest single release since their debut ‘Breathe’ in August of last year, this track was well worth the wait. The single is packed with gripping elements using confident experimentation that pays off so well. I haven’t heard a band in a long time create that original spacey, dream-like feeling that completely makes you escape from reality for a couple of minutes.
One minute you’re swaying along to the dreamy verses, filled with intent to hypnotize you with the continual guitar rhythm, the next you’re flush with girl power as the heavy chorus has you grooving and head banging.
Lead singer Anny’s voice is beautifully consistent. She maintains that cool laid-back style where she effortlessly reaches both the high and low notes with ease. And although at times it’s hard to comprehend what she’s saying; I almost like it better like that. It’s not as if she is mumbling, it’s as if she’s singing dreamy extended notes, all blended together in a constant wave.
It is perhaps a sad, gritty love song, yet it’s packed with power throughout which has you thinking; this is a damn good track. The grungy chorus comes in at just the right moments, like a vigorous wakeup call from the hazy verses. It’s the perfect mix of heavy and soft.
I especially love the interlude half way through the song. The guitar sounds as if its gently weeping in the distance, crying out to you but you can’t quite reach it. It adds wonders to the somber feeling created with the music and lyrics combined.
The song comes to a close with a lengthy outro packed with a piercing bass line, pounding drums and again, another great guitar addition of pleasant screeches and strums. It definitely is one to hear live, which you can do at their gig this Thursday the 18th of April. They will be closing the second night of Behind The Noise at The Classic Grand.
