SINGLE REVIEW | ARK ROYAL | STICKS AND STONES

Updated: Jun 18, 2019

Having been quiet for a while Ark Royal returned with a bang with latest single “Sticks and Stones”.

Steering away from their usual heavy rock sound like in their debut single “Bring It Down” to come out with a more indie tune with high tempo guitar from the offset. This is followed by enthusiastic significant drumbeats to lead us into the vocals.

The vocals are a perfect fit with the high tempo and up-beatness of the instrumental parts of the song with the repetition of “I don’t like asking questions and I don’t like being the one who’s always at fault” making the tune catchy from the start.

The fact that Graeme’s vocals also bring out a small taste of the Scottish accent really completes the song for me, putting across a Biffy Clyro type vibe to the tune. This really shows the versatility of the Ark Royal lads as this is in stark contrast with their debut single, giving the range of these guys have.

In all “Sticks and Stones” is the epitome of what an indie tune should sound like, high tempo guitar, hard hitting drums and bass, with catchy vocals. It really is a formula that cannot fail.

Check out the single over on Spotify and Apple Music.

Ark Royal are Graeme Dingwall, Andrew Hart, Alex Bowman and Matthew Tonner.
