Ruvellas Preview @ Church, Dundee | 26.12

Ruvellas are a 5-piece group of Dundee originals, who like to bend the boundaries of indie rock and alt-rock. Incorporating flavours of Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles and Catfish and the Bottlemen. After forming in 2014, the guys took their multi-instrumentalist motivations and brought their live vibes with shows at The Shore, Church Dundee and Gardyne Theatre. This year saw them supporting the Snuts at a number of sell out shows, playing EH6 Festival and now with their own Double A side launch, 'Sick & Tired' + 'Still the Same', in a momentous fashion on Boxing Day, back to their roots at Church, Dundee. They have so much to offer despite still being so young. Their stage presence is beyond their years, they know how it’s done.

Supporting them will be The Medinas, Neil Morrison Band, Exempt with more to be announced. The Medinas are also from Dundee and also a young outfit. But after only forming last year they have played Belladrum, supporting VIDA and BETA WAVES. They also released their debut single ‘Daisy Chains’ last year which scored over 20,000 plays, gaining worldwide airtime. Their sound is superbly chilling, they have their own unique take on indie which paints pretty pictures of summer feelings. From the first second of ‘Daisy Chains’ there’s a likeability factor, a sense of comfort that’s like an afternoon with your best pal at the pub.

Also making an appearance are Neil Morrison Band. Brimming more with a psychedelic vibe, the band take their inspiration from those such as Bob Dylan, Courtney Barnett, Mac, DeMarco, The Seeds and The Velvet Underground. 2018 has been a massive year of majestic performances for these guys, with a plethora of support gigs for big name bands, and an impressive trail of headline shows. The have an ability to churn out what seems like effortless masterpieces, some kind of musical paradox that’s both painted with mystery while still providing you with contentment.

The last mention goes to The Exempt, the newest addition to the Scottish scene in the present line-up. The trio are also Dundee-based, and they are already working hard to create great things for the start of 2019 with a planned single release. You can expect something in the vein of Oasis, The Beatles, ELO, Foo Fighters, Paul Weller and Kasabian. A multi-coloured mash up of original style combined with some of the greats, to give you an out of this world performance that will bend the boundaries of your understanding of music.

Tickets are still currently available for this gig, so why not keep the festive celebrations buzzing with a wee cheeky boxing day treat to yourself.
