REVIEW: Gig in the Carpark 2018 @ The Greenside Hotel/ Sunday 5th of August

Updated: Aug 12, 2018

Sunny Sunday at day 2 in the carpark, few cold ones and lots of talented local musicians. What better way to cure the hangover from Saturday's antics here at The Greenside Hotel. Before seeing any of the acts I bumped into event founder Raegan who seemed pleased with the turn out to Saturdays gig and hopeful for the day ahead but slightly relieved that he only had one more day of the stress. A man well in need of a pint.

I spent the beginning of the Sunday hovering around the acoustic stage with the likes of new Dunfermline duo Ryan and Liam covering everything from Catfish and the Bottlemen to Whitney Houston and The Stone Roses.

They were later followed by local singer/songwriter Romay O'Donnell, a young girl with a proper amazing voice. Performing both covers and original maturely written songs. Covers included

Oasis, Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Cranberries. She captured an amazing atmosphere in the room and by far had some of the loudest applauses in the whole weekend. Dinny just take my word for it take the drunk guy next to me who described her as 'shit hot talent.'

Over at the marquee another band recommended to me by multiple people in the audience were Saus and The Secret Soulmates. A five piece band with one of the most enthusiastic drummers I've seen in my whole entire puff! even better they topped their set off with a cover of Fleetwood Mac's classic 'Go Your Own Way'.

Other notable acts on the Sunday line up included Underneath The Lights who performed on the venue stage later followed by Aye Hobos representing the older generation proving that music has no age limit.

Another act I was highly recommended were The Catch 22s, not a band I had heard of but a lot of people cutting about in their merch all day was a good sign. They took to the marquee stage to kick start Sunday's headline acts (The Decrees and Root System) with a great energy which passed onto the audience. They performed a couple of covers and upbeat, quirky original songs with one even dedicated to The Greenside venue itself!

Overall I think it's great to see someone actually going to the length that Raegan has to bring an event like this to our doorstep. Offering local budding artists who may otherwise be over looked the chance to play and become part of their local music scene.

Thanks you to Raegan and all the staff involved for allowing me to have a nosey round the venue and all the acts.
