REVIEW: Fatherson @Clarks, Dundee // Album Launch with Assai Records // 17th Sept 2018

Updated: Sep 21, 2018

Kilmarnock's finest alternative rock trio took to the stage at Clarks on Lindsay Street Dundee on Monday night along with support from Zoe Graham. Fatherson invited all Dundonians to celebrate the release of their 3rd studio album 'Sum of All Your Parts' released on the 14th of September 2018.

So to build suspense for the boys let's talk support first. Glasgow's Zoe Graham warmed up the crowd, having already seen her at Scottish music business convention Widedays it was a nice surprise to see her playing live again. Her charmingly echoing vocals above her even more charming loop pedal skills were something the likes of Tash Sultana would be proud of. Definitely one to watch.

The trio have been together many years now and have travelled around Europe and beyond playing their music so Dundee was set to be a doddle. Now I knew Fatherson were a big-ish deal but I didny realise they were a proper fucking BIG-ISH deal and their warm welcome to the stage by a full capacity audience confirmed that. The set consisted of both of old tunes and new ones from their latest album which went down a treat.

They had a great live energy and live sound not far off the high standard of their recordings. Songs which stuck out for me were 'Making Waves', a fresh addition from the new album and acoustic/stripped back cover of 'James' led by Ross which I have honestly have to say was even better than the recordings and a proper emotional one (didny greet but was proper fucking close to it, weapon).

Now I can sit here and praise them with a straw up their arse but the real confirmation of their musical ability and achievement comes from the fact every member of the audience knew every fucking word and sang it like it was their last breath. A great gig from the boys, all the best with their album and the tour.

Keeping this review short and sweet but there's more to come, before the gig I was able to get a wee interview out of them which will be up on Discovery Music soon.
