PYLON Preview

Having missed the first two rounds of this sold-out musical spectacle - playing gigs and holidays, who’d have em? - I’m more than chuffed to be able to attend the show’s 3rd performance.

Based on real events, PYLON takes us back to the 90s in the Ayrshire town of Kilmarnock following main man Davie McFarlane. Davie will seek the truth from authorities after residents of a housing scheme, Shortlees, make worrying claims that the nearby electricity pylons are contributing to higher rates of cancer in the area. Some bizarre twists and turns in Davie’s journey will leave him with more questions than answers.

Self-described as being a powerful and emotional story laced with humour and honesty, PYLON uses live music, stunning visuals and incredible on stage storytelling to leave audiences entertained and captivated.

Phew! So, I was intrigued before, but now PYLON has my full attention. Or whatever it is that DiCaprio says in Django.

But why is this show important?

Not only does it bring to the wider world a true story from an Ayrshire town, but it brings together songwriting and live performance in a combination rarely seen on a theatre stage.

Fans of live music will be captivated by the talented musicians from the story’s local area and theatre connoisseurs will be gripped by the refreshing script, delivery, and of course the vivid Scottish dialect. There’s no chance for disappointment.

The team behind the production are to this day completely self-funded, with the one goal being to share the story of PYLON. The themes at the centre of the production are community, looking out for one another, and seeking the truth. Some of the issues and topics presented will span all classes and walks of life whilst also displaying the stark difference in opportunity, treatment and resources.

The team have been to showcase at BEAM2018 at London’s Theatre Royal, and have featured on WestFM as well as featuring on BBC Radio's Off the Ball session, truly doing their bit to showcase Scotland’s homegrown artistic talent.

You can keep up to date with the show’s progress through their facebook page.

Tickets are set to sell-out for a third time for PYLON as they bring their show to the Glasgow’s Mitchell Theatre on Saturday the 15th September 2018.

I’ve got mine, get yours here before they’re gone.

If you’re as intrigued as I am, have a listen to the soundtrack - although of course treating your ears to the live rendition would be a much better choice - using this spotify link.

Finally, keep your peepers peeled for a follow-up review of the show...
