Brought to you by a group of Scottish music enthusiasts who genuinely want to give local artists a platform and more visibility, the Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMA’s) are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year! The awards will return to Saint Luke’s Glasgow on the 25thh October, bringing you the freshest sounds from across the country. The aim of the event is to celebrate all the juicy talent coming out of the Scottish music scene right now and to showcase this wee nation’s extensive creativity across genres.
The night will also be host to some equally enigmatic acts such as The Cosmic Dead who are known for their slightly interstellar, trippy rock sound. They will be bringing you a vibe that’s out of this world but still sparkly and entertaining. The guys are currently away on their ‘Scottish Space Race’ European tour gaining a strong following from all corners of the continent. Chlobocop will also feature. Her hip hop vibes are worlds apart from what Cosmic Dead will offer but still equally as earth shattering. Not to mention some exquisite poetry from Leyla Josephine.
This year the awards will cover a wide array of genres. The seven awards on offer are as follows:
Best Newcomer in association with The Academy Of Music & Sound
Best Electronic in association with citizenM hotels
Best Hip Hop in association with Help Musicians Scotland
Best Acoustic in association with BTO BeCreative
Best Live Act in association with Musicians Union
Best Metal in association with Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow
Best Rock/Alternative in association with Beezer
The event is run in association with Rebel Rebel Barbers in Glasgow and Creative Scotland. The votes will be open in October and you can expect a high calibre of talent up for nomination. The awards have previously included winners from Gerry Cinnamon, to Lewis Capaldi, Be Charlotte, Fatherson and The Ninth Wave.
The event will also be doing its bit for the musical community with Help Musicians Scotland as their charity partner. The charity focuses on helping musicians with their Mental Health, Physical Health, Financial Health and Career Health. A limited amount of tickets are available for Scottish Alternative Music Awards via Eventbrite. £1 from each will go directly to the charity and will be invested back into supporting Scottish musicians.
For further info and how to get involved in the voting process you can find out more on the SAMA’s website.
