With each year, this festival makes its way deeper into the hearts of the music loving people. The recently announced theme, ‘Kendal Calling Goes Jurassic’ gives you and inkling of what can be expected over the weekend.

Not only is it host to several exciting music acts but there will also be a whole host workshops and activities. It has sold out thirteen years in a row, with Courteeners, Doves, Manic Street Preachers, Nile Rogers & Chic and Orbital headlining the weekend across the 25th-28th July.

Several Scottish acts will be set to make an appearance at this year’s festival with much loved artists such as Gerry Cinnamon. His reputation precedes him. His sound is upbeat with a brutal honesty that makes it something you can really get your teeth into.

Some other well-known acts including KT Tunstall will grace the stage with their highly-acclaimed prowess. Kyle Falconer will also take his solo performance to the beautiful Lancashire festival.

Having gained much acclaim after his solo album release in 2018, Kyle has continued his success with the release of his latest EP this year, ‘Almost Pleasant’.

Discovery regulars The Snuts have also made the line-up this year, which is evidence of their ever-growing fan scene. They are fast becoming a household name across both the Scottish and UK circuits with a sound that is full of energy and charisma.

They have had several sell out shows up and down the country not to mention a stellar festival appearance line-up this year in Europe and beyond.

If you haven’t yet had a chance to catch Rascalton, what a better setting than amongst the rolling hills of the English countryside. Rascalton bring you that old-school punk feel with a relatively decent amount of classic carnage in their live performances.

The festival will also be host to several other mind-blowing UK acts. It boasts a community feel, and also promises to give plenty of airtime to local acts such as the Lancashire Hotpots.

It will be a diverse bill of acts with everything from pop, electronic, Parisian indie-pop. Not to mention a meander down into the sounds of the underground. You can expect sets from festival veterans Chai Wallahs, Honeyfeet, Psychadelephant, LayFullStop and The Plimp Souls to name a few.

You will be treated to four spectacular days of entertainment and all day happenings. The festival kicks off on the Thursday night with Gomez, The Cuban Brothers, Orbital and Sea Girls. Friday will see the likes of Years & Years take the stage, alongside Miles Kane, The Pigeon Detectives and Reverend & The Makers.

You’ll be star struck on the Saturday with Manic Street Preachers, Gerry Cinnamon and The Subways. Then prepare to be dazzled with the final serving of greatness on the Sunday with Courteneers, Tom Jones, The Fratellis and Jax Jones. It’s no wonder tickets have been snapped up so fast!

If you need a breather from the musical offerings, head on over to The Soapbox. A dedicated stage for all things of the spoken word variety. You’ll be graced with the presence of story-teller Taffy Thomas and Edinburgh Fringe regulars Chris Betts vs The Audience. Not to mention an alternative Sunday service from Oh My God! It’s The Church.

A neat addition to this year’s festival will be the collaboration with Extinction Rebellion, who have “lead one of the most important movements of modern history in pursuit of meaningful action and change to combat climate breakdown as a matter of distinct urgency”.

They will be providing a series of workshops (including yoga and screen printing), talks, film screenings in order to offer an insightful take on how people can act to impact the future of climate change.

If you haven’t guessed already, Kendal Calling is beaming with energy and positivity. Kids are also welcome to partake in the fun with arts and crafts, performances and other hands on sessions to keep them busy. It certainly aims to cover all the bases!
