Coming at you this weekend is the long awaited national youth music touring project, Hit The Road. The tour will grace the platforms of Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh. It’s run by the Scottish Music Centre and funded by Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative (YMI) and PRS Foundation. It provides new musicians with the opportunity to get a feel for the music sector and find their feet before embarking on a professional level tour. It gives them the chance to network, gain knowledge, as well as the skills and expertise before taking on a fully professionally managed tour. Previous successes include Lewis Capaldi, Be Charlotte, Indigo Velvet, Model Aeroplanes and JR Green. This year’s extravaganza will be host to some of the most electrifying acts on the Scottish music scene right now.
First up is The Plastic Youth. Having formed in late 2013, the Glasgow based four-piece bring you some ear orbiting indie ‘jangle-pop’. With massive influences such as The Strokes, Frankie Cosmos and The Beatles, they released their debut single ‘Sweet Dreamer’ this year which has already received much acclaim. It has reached almost 20, 000 plays on Spotify not to mention gaining air time from Gideon Coe on BBC Radio 6 Music and Amazing Radio by Jim Gellatly. They are by no means new to the gigging circuit either, playing at well-known venues such as Stereo, The Garage, The Classic Grand and Saint Luke’s. Their presence will be an unforgettable experience on this tour.
Also playing will be Ruvellas. For such young guys at only 17 years old, this Dundee based outfit having played a number of sell out shows on their home ground as well as supporting well-known acts such as The Snuts, Saint-Louie and The Dunts. They’ve made the headlines in their local press and recently released their first single. They originally formed in 2014 under the name Room-One. Their goal is ‘to revitalise the music scene and help others enjoy some familiar-sounding songs whilst keeping and original and passionate style’. The go beyond this, by communicating their love of music and respect for their fans, they offer a humble outlook that is beyond their years.
Fairly fresh to the scene are Spyyn, they are one of the newest acts to the tour. Having being picked up to appear on Hit The Road so early in their career is testament to their sizzling talent. This Edinburgh based group originate from all over Scotland but found their connection while studying in Edinburgh. They have been given some stellar recognition from The Skinny, not to mention already releasing their third single ‘City’ at the beginning of this month. They are a self-described ambient-indie rock style assemblage who offer bone deep, atmospherically charged tracks not to be missed.
The tour will take place in each of the band’s respective hometowns kicking off with The Church in Dundee on the 15th November, followed by The Hug and Pint in Glasgow on the 16th and finishing up with The Mash House in Edinburgh on the 18th.
