GIG REVIEW| VUKOVI @ The Garage Attic, Glasgow | 06/02/19

This was a very last minute gig for me. I got a message from a friend asking if I fancied going to a gig with them and who could say no to live music? Definitely not me anyway.

Crystal

I was delighted to find out a day or two before heading to the gig that Crytstal were going to be the support. They are somebody I have saw a lot of recently and each time gets better and better. Having also met and interviewed them before Christmas they aren't just good musicians they are great people too. After a wee bit of technical difficulties with Blair's guitar at the start of set they went on to produce a great set and sounded really good in the small venue The Attic. Its always great to hear their latest single Sex Rich performed live also. Another highlight for me was Anna taking to the barrier in front of the crowd and singing up on the steps, impressive to see confidence from somebody who has always been more reserved at previous gigs I saw Crystal. 2019 is a going to be a big year for the band and from this performance its easy to see why.

After a quick change over it was time for the headliners Vukovi to take to the stage. Having listened to their album on Spotify for only a couple of days before the gig, I preferred to go for the approach of letting the live music determine of what I thought of them and my word what a great decision this was. Vukovi are fantastic live and I'm disappointed I had missed out on seeing them live before. They played a couple of new songs which seemed to go down very very well with the packed out room. The crowd interaction with lead singer Janine was superb to see, with some fans visibly delighted to get up close to her. Janine was also clearly loving it too by taking fans phones from them and singing directly into them and also spending more time up on the barriers and in the crowd than on the actual stage. Janine's on and off stage presence is a real highlight of the band. My favourite songs of their's has to be I'm Wired and La Di Da. I had listened to them two in particular the most before the gig and they both sounded totally epic live. A great set from the Vukovi and they have sound a new fan in me and I cannot wait to see them again live very soon.
