GIG REVIEW | This Feeling @ Beat Generator Dundee 16/02/19

Updated: Mar 21, 2019

After a hectic week what better way to end it than with some local music, at a class venue and with myself having never experienced most of the bands on show it sure was going to be a cracker. Now unfortunately during the week leading up to the gig one of the bands The VanT’s had to pull out through illness but as they say in theatre the show must go on and let me tell you it was one hell of a show.

First up were a band who have been hitting the headlines lately and have been embroiled in a possible law suit, The Love Affair. This was their last gig known as The Love Affair, going now by the name The Rositas due to the threat of legal action by 60’s outfit Love Affair. It was a farewell to their name but definitely not a farewell to them or their sound coming out with class guitar solo’s such as in their debut song “I Can’t Help It” they really brought a freshness to the scene in Dundee and great to see a band pushing the boundaries of what’s considered the “norm”. In all a great performance from the lads and a great way to end the chapter of The Love Affair and kick start the new one as The Rositas. (Also, we got to have a wee chat with the lads after their set so click HERE to check that out!)

Next up were a band I’ve been itching to see since I had been recommended them by Matt from Brownbear way back in October, it is Black Dove. Black Dove are a four-piece indie/alt rock band hailing from Greenock and let me tell you they held up to the recommendation, bringing forth a clean polished sound with heavy beats and cracking vocals. Playing their newest single “Fake ID” they had everyone up enjoying themselves which was great to see from a band that’s not a Dundee native. This is a band I certainly hope to catch in Dundee again and possibly further afield and would urge anyone who has the chance to go and see them.

Next up were the headliners and certainly no stranger to a Discovery Music review Novella. You’d think when it came to the amount of review’s we here at Discovery Music have done on Novella all that could be said has been. Ah but you’d be wrong it seems every time I have been to see Novella that performance tops the last, each one bringing a higher sense of professionalism and a progression in their sound. Quite literally rolling out the banner showing the Dundee music scene is as active and bursting with talent as it always has been. Its been a true pleasure seeing the progression of their sound and becoming accustomed to belting out fan favourites such as “Plastic Rose” and “Higher” and I cannot wait to see where they take it through the rest of 2019.

Once again, another class and well attended gig put on by “This Feeling”. It really is great to see people coming down and supporting local homegrown talent.
