This was a gig I had been looking forward to ever since the day it was announced. This for me was the 2nd in a trio of gigs on consecutive days. I was excited to be heading to Glasgow for this, to not only to see The Snuts and Mark Sharp but also the fact I had never been to Saint Lukes before.
By the time I made it into the venue, Adam Glen was about half way through his set. The young singer/songwriter sounded good up on the big stage and had a decent early crowd in to listen to him perform. Although the only down side of his set was doing a cover of "Face For The Radio" and forgetting the words! Apart from that a good set by Adam.
Next to the stage were Petty Thieves. They are a five piece indie/rock band from Falkirk. I hadn't heard or saw these guys before the gig so it was great to catch a new band live. They played a good set of songs - what I would expect to hear from an indie band. The highlight for me was their cover of Catfish And The Bottlemen's song "7"- a really good cover!
The main support for the night was Mark Sharp & The Bicycle Thieves. Having had the chance to see them perform at Firewater in Glasgow as part of Tenement Trail I was delighted that I was getting the chance to see them again so soon. I have been listening their songs a lot recently and just love them! They did their fantastic cover of "Born Slippy" by Underworld, which can be viewed HERE, just as they did when I saw them at Firewater but this time on the big stage it sounded epic. The crowd went mental for it - this was only a sign of things to come...
Enter to the stage The Snuts. The atmosphere was absolutely electric when the 4 lads walked onto the stage with a remix version of Juicy by Notorious B.I.G - an appropriated titled song for what their set was going to be like. Kicking off with the intro to The Matador, the crowd were introduced to the band with their now famous introduction "What's happenin, we're The Fuckin Snuts" before bursting into life - with the crowd going mental. This was to be a theme for the rest of the night and honestly one of the best gigs I've been to all year. The loudest and most rapturous crowd participation was reserved for arguably their biggest song "Glasgow" which you can see HERE. Newer releases "Seasons" and "Manhattan Project" got equally great responses from the crowd, proving that their popularity is showing no signs of slowing down and continuing to go from strength to strength. It was clear to see the band were enjoying it too as they couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole set. Nothing better than seeing a band enjoy themselves. What makes the rise of The Snuts even more astonishing is that they've only released two proper singles and half a dozen or so demos. With limited marketing and radio play this has been word of mouth that has spread like wildfire in the last few years. And the best part of the night? The Snuts announced a headline gig at SWG3 on the 29th of December so not got to wait long to relive this all over again. Christmas with The Snuts? I can't fucking wait!
