GIG REVIEW | The Snuts @ SWG3| 29.12.18

Updated: Jan 8, 2019

A force to be reckoned with, and a rip-roaring success whose fame has escalated beyond belief in the past year, the Snuts brought their best game to the table this past weekend at SWG3 in Glasgow. Having only performed their debut headliner at King Tuts in December 2017, they continue to bring a raucous, sell-out performance to the stage.

They were supported by the well-established Perth based, Parliamo, who kicked off the night with their tight sound and electric energy. They have an unbelievable capacity to communicate genuine passion for their craft as well as keeping their tunes totally together. They are like a high-speed train that from the outside looks like it’s hurtling along, while on the inside it’s a well-controlled machine. You really can’t beat their highly polished sound and for such a young outfit that are absolutely killing it.

The second support act of the night were The Mysterines, bringing a very classic rock sound to the line-up. Potentially an unexpected choice for the night, who struggled to warm the hearts of the Glasgow locals. Their performance was infallible, but the connection just wasn’t there. Nonetheless, The Mysterines are a well-established trio, who have held their own at big name festivals such as Leeds, Neighbourhood and Hit the North. They also were featured in Radio X’s Best New Music Artists and Bands for 2019 with some major gigs planned already for the coming year.

Then came the much-awaited main event. The Snut’s adoring fans fell into a frenzy of disbelief and star struck-ness as the guys took the stage. Their casual presence is a winner with this crowd who are your classic high energy, mental, only-in-Scotland kind of buzzing audience. The fans sang along to every word of almost every song, except the ones that were featuring for the first time. Witnessing this kind of following is a testament to the success of The Snuts since their debut. The vocals carry a distinct tone that help craft memorable hooks and catchy choruses, that not only contain musical appeal but also communicate meaningful words that resonate with many of us. The crowd was absolutely jumping, a few friendly pits kicked off, many were dancing on the shoulders of friends, the Snuts clearly know how to create a connection with and amongst their fans.

Swigging on wine in disbelief of their full-time gig as music artists, everyone else in that room knew exactly why they should be on that stage. From their heart grabbing track ‘Glasgow’ that is the ultimate crowd pleaser to their minimalistic chat. These guys have the perfect mixture of confidence, humility, likeability and talent, that could set even the iciest of music fans on fire. You can expect a new album from them this year and I’m certain there’ll be many more appearances like this to come.
