This was a first for me. Normally I never take any notice of Facebook adverts but when I saw the gig appear on my timeline earlier in the year I decided to check out The Slow Readers Club on Spotify and the rest as they say is history, I have been hooked ever since.
First to take to the stage were Liverpools own The Tea Street Band. They are normally a 4 piece band but for the gig in Dundee they were a two piece with the help of a pre programmed backing tracks. It should be applauded that the band wanted to do the gig with only two members as usually a band will not play a gig if a member of the band can't make it. I hadn't heard of them before but by the time they had finished their set I was a fan. They have a very different and unique style but something that makes them stand out which is always a bonus in the music world. They have a sound that makes move along to their songs no matter how much you want to stop. A really good blend of harmonies as well. It was great to see the band have a good crowd to watch them as sometimes the support bands aren't well attended. I'm really looking forward to catching the band again but hopefully the next till it will be with all the members present.
Finally it was time for the headliners The Slow Readers Club. This was the 3rd night of their Scottish tour dates. Before the gig I managed to catch up with the band for an interview which will be available in the near future. A Thursday night gig in Dundee usually doesn't attract the largest of crowds but by the time the band were on stage the room had a good number of people in attendance and the atmosphere was electric. Straight from the first note of the first song the crowd were jumping. The interaction between the crowd and the band was one of the best I've seen live and was easy to see that the band were really enjoying themselves. Their take on retro electric sounding music with a modern twist sounds incredible live. They stand out in the music scene by a mile and its no surprise that they have been signed and have been able to go full time. It won't be long before they are headlining massive venues not just in the Manchester area but across the UK. They played for over an hour but in all honesty I could have listened to them play all night and still not get bored. This was a brilliant performance and one of my favourite gigs of the year so far and I cannot wait to see them again up in Scotland again hopefully very soon!
