I’ve only been part of Discovery Music now for the last 4 months and I honestly can’t believe how much talent I’ve discovered.
The Scottish music industry is blooming and it’s just going to keep getting bigger and bigger! Last month, I got to add another two to my list of exciting Scottish bands that are definitely ones to watch out for: Bathgate duo, Pyro and Aberdeen Alternative rock band, Angry Man Car Park.
The bands were part of the ‘Hit the Road’ tour where each band headlined their show in their home town with the other two bands supporting. On the Friday, Pyro headlined Bathgate, Angry Man Car Park were Saturday nights headliners in Aberdeen and Glaswegian band, The Monocasters were supposed to have the headlining slot for The hug and Pint on the Sunday - the one I attended. Unfortunately, the gig got cancelled just before the Glaswegian indie rock band got a chance to perform but I'll definitely make a point to see them in the future.
First on was Angry Man Car Park. This was actually my first time listening to the band but I can assure you there were no disappointments. I honestly couldn’t believe the power in lead singer’s Adam Strachan voice. Think Jared Leto from 30 seconds to Mars meets Matt Bellamy from Muse and no I’m not exaggerating. He just looked so natural when he was performing and fitted in so well with the rest of the band - a well rehearsed professional set! I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for Angry Man Car Park and you should be too!
After a quick trip to the bar for a pint, it was Pyro's turn to take to the stage. Now I’d heard a lot of great things about the band prior to the gig and was excited to see what they were all about. The band is formed of drummer and singer, Connor and guitarist, Cameron. You wouldn’t believe the talent that comes from the duo. How anyone can play the drums and sing at the same time is beyond me yet it comes so naturally to Connor. Laurie Vincent from Slaves comes to mind! Then you have Cameron with his likeable charm and insane guitar skills on stage. Put them both together and you have the perfect mix. It will forever amaze me how two guys can create such a powerful sounding set. Real raw talent that shouldn’t go unnoticed.
They released a song this year called ‘Tear Me Down’ and I don’t know how it isn’t bigger. The song instantly grips you in with the lyrics: ‘You build me up and tear me down and don’t you catch me if I fall cause I didn’t ask for anything - no nothing at all’ It’s a song that automatically makes you feel something and seeing it live just totally gave me goosebumps. The passion both boys have on stage is amazing to watch and totally grips the audience. If this is the quality they have on stage now, can you imagine how they’re going to be in years to come?!
See it for yourself at their next Glasgow gig on the 24th September! Ticket link below: https://www.thehugandpint.com/events/30c8e0f8-5d6f-4bb9-afa9-5304a1d11484?fbclid=IwAR3i34cEJR-0fLhCeo5oROPgo9ZzGyWJrAQLklWVauAsSOb-FG9dExdEX6E
