GIG REVIEW | NEON WALTZ @ TUNNELS, ABERDEEN | 14/03/19

A Thursday night gig seems to be the norm for me these days and this was no different. A train journey up to Aberdeen was something different and a visit to Tunnels is always welcome as it's fast becoming one of my favourite venues for a gig in Scotland.

The Roov

The only support of the night came in the shape of Lossiemouth lads, The Roov. Having followed the band online for a while now, I believe this is the first time that I have actually got the chacce to se them in person and it was definitely worth the wait. Blending disco with indie rock leaves you doing nothing but wanting to dance a long to their songs. In a world where there are so many bands all doing their own thing, The Roov have managed to develop a sound that makes them stand out. There was a good size of crowd in to see the band perform and I'm sure by the ed of their set they will have picked up a few new fans. The band have a bright future in the Scottish music scene, almost as bright as lead singer Frankie Ralph's jacket which gleamed in the Tunnels lighting. Overall a great set from the four piece and and I look forward to seeing them hopefully again in the near future.

Neon Waltz

It felt like it took an absolute age for the headliners to come onto the stage but finally it was time for Neon Waltz. I have had the pleasure of seeing these guys perform a number of times recently and for me each time they keep getting better and better. It was a proud moment seeing my good mate Brad Kennedy standing in to play keyboard for the band on this tour also. For being such a small venue the sound in Tunnels is huge and this suits the Neon Waltz sound right down to the ground. If you were to ask me how to describe their sound then it would be a tricky thing to do but this is a great thing to be as, like The Roov, it makes you stand out and that's exactly what they do. With their catchy lyrics and guitar riffs, its easy to see, and hear, why the band have had a great amount of success touring with DMA'S and Noel Gallagher to name a few in the last year. This performance contained a number of firm fan favourites such as Dreamers and Bring Me To Light, so much so that a rather steaming fan was allowed to sing part of Dreamers but it sounded awful, the least said the better. Being the start of the tour, it was plain to see the bands were really up for it and enjoying themselves. A great set and one which the big crowd really enjoyed, always a pleasure to see the Neon Waltz lads doing their thing.
