As soon as Neon Waltz announced their UK tour this year I knew the Glasgow date would be a definite for me and what a gig it was!
This was the first time seeing a gig at Saint Luke's and I must say the old renovated church turned music venue certainly lived up to the hype. I much prefer smaller venues as I feel the atmosphere is always better because of the intimacy and this gig was no exception.
After arriving at the gig and buying my first cold pint of the night, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there was an other band called Pleasure Heads playing. When going to any gig, I always make a point of seeing the support act as it's such a good way of discovering new bands.
Pleasure Heads were fantastic and showed great potential within the Scottish music industry. I could tell a lot of people in the crowd were already fans and not surprising - with their upbeat rock vibe and incredible energy on stage. I already can't wait see them live again!
Up next was The incredible Nickajack Men. Now, I've been a fan of this band for the last year or so I can't tell you how excited I was to hear they were supporting Neon Waltz. As this was my first time seeing them live, I wasn't sure what to expect but i can honestly say they exceeded expectations. I highly recommend listening to them on Spotify if you haven't already. Their soulful sound could be described as a Scottish Kings of Leon with a 70s twist. It's so great to see such a modern band influenced by such a remarkable music era. A half an hour set certainly wasn't long enough - I could have listened to them all night. Unexpectedly, I had the pleasure of meeting frontman, Lewis after the gig who hinted there's a lot in store for The Nickajack Men this year and I for one can't wait!
Finally it was the headliners turn to take the stage... As soon as front-man, Jordan and the rest of Neon Waltz swaggered on stage to the song, 'Stranger in Blue Suede Shoes' by Kevin Ayer I knew this would be a gig to remember and it certainly was. From the get-go, the band were on top form, opening with the incredible 'Bare Wood Aisles.' I was totally in awe with the band's performance. They write the type of songs that make you zone out and forget about life for a while - a true gift. The entire set-list was well thought out but in particular the songs, 'The Stranger Things', 'Perfect Frame' and 'Dreamers' were my own personal highlights. The band have a very unique style likely to be influenced by the 60s with a indie flair. It's safe to say i was very impressed and won't hesitate for a second to go see them again in their next tour - hopefully it won't be a long wait!
Overall, what a great night for music lovers. Still can't get over some of the talent from all three bands - it may have been the first time seeing them all live but it definitely won't be the last! I highly recommend checking the bands out if you haven't yet (I'll leave the links below) - you won't be disappointed!
