From one sold out venue to the next no matter where they were to play Mark Sharp & the Bicycle Thieves were sure to sell it out. With the announcement of another one of my favourite bands around at the moment in Devon I knew it would be a night to remember and I just had to be there!
Now unfortunately due to work demands and time to get to Glasgow I missed the first band Dictator. After scouring Facebook, Twitter, Spotify and Soundcloud to try and find out what I was missing, all I could find was an inactive Twitter account created in November so if anyone has a way I can give them a listen, give me a shout as I’m always for up listening to new music and bands!
The second band up were Devon, as I said they are one of my favourite bands around at the moment, first finding out about them at a gig at Church in Dundee (click HERE to read that review) as their ‘warm-up’ for Tenement Trail since then I was hooked. Looking at home on stage in their adoptive home town of Glasgow they played a fantastic set of their Pop meets indie tunes with all my personal favourites from their newest EP ‘NOT THE PLACE, NOT THE COUNTY’. They were urging everyone forward demanding they enjoyed themselves and it certainly worked, but that was always inevitable when it came to Devon’s music. This is a band in which I will always hold in high regard and urge anyone and everyone to listen, I promise you, you shall not be disappointed.
Now was time for the headliner Mark Sharp & the Bicycle Thieves, entering the stage to a packed out G2, bursting at the seems with music lovers and creators alike. Playing a fantastic set one in which people who have been to a MS&BT gig would be accustomed too playing their hit new single ‘Warpaint’ as well as other bangers like, the massively loved ‘Firewater’ which coincidentally was where I first ever discovered them back in September at Tenement Trail. Also, of course, playing probably my favourite cover to ever witness in ‘Underworld - Born Slippy’ which those of you who have seen the lads before know, has contention on being better than the original. Overall a phenomenal set by the lads and the perfect way to end 2018, with a headliner in your home town.
In all definitely a night I will never forget for many reasons, thank you so much to Mark and the lads for having me down and also allowing me to interview them after the gig (keep your eyes peeled for that one)!!
