On Thursday the 4th of July, Kyle Falconer took to the stage in one of Fife's most loved venues, PJ Molloys supported by local Fife lads Paris Street Rebels. I was lucky enough to be there and you can read more below on why this gig was one to remember.

Paris Street Rebels

Fife band Paris Street Rebels took to the PJ's stage as support and gave the crowd exactly what they lusted after. The venue was busy early for the Fife boys which made me more interested to see what they had to offer as it was my first time seeing them live. It was clear they have a strong fanbase in the area with the crowd screaming their lyrics especially during tunes ‘Kings of Balado’ and ‘I Don’t Wanna Die Young’. The band did a class job of interacting with the crowd, it wasn’t stale or forced, they just reciprocated the same feeling the crowd gave them. Their set was energetic and fun. The band give you the impression that they would act the same way no matter how big or small the stage, they ooze confidence and gave the gig everything they had.

Kyle Falconer

I’ve been a massive fan of The View for years and was just as disappointed as everyone else when the band announced they were taking a break. When lead singer Kyle Falconer announced he was working on a solo project I was excited to see what was to come and how his solo gigs would be. This was my first time seeing Kyle solo and I can say his solo music works really really well live, giving the fans everything that The View gave them but with a more mature outlook. The crowd hung on Kyle’s every word, with one fan even climbing over the barrier and onto the stage just to hug him.

One of the best things about Kyle Falconer live is that there’re no airs and graces, he still has conversations with people in the crowd and doesn’t let anything get in his way of putting on a great show. He shouted his trademark phrase “Yeti!” between songs and kept the crowd upbeat and happy throughout. The setlist was extensive with Kyle playing for around 1 hour and 45 minutes, one of the longest sets I’ve seen from anyone for a long time.

There was a good energy throughout the show with Kyle belting out hits such as ‘Poor me’, ‘Japanese girl’ and ‘The Therapist’. I expected the set to be mainly filled with Kyle’s solo work and was more than happy with that but Kyle belted out tune after tune from The View, making it an even greater gig. He kept the show interesting, changing up the mood of the crowd as he went along which made the set fly in. One minute the crowd were pushing each other and screaming the words to ‘Witches’ and the next, they were singing along to ballad tunes such as ‘Tacky Tattoo’ and ‘Face for the Radio’.

At the end of the show, we were treated to Kyle’s rendition of Tina Turner’s hit ‘What’s Love Got to Do with it’ while in true Kyle Falconer fun style, wearing novelty glasses. I left the gig in a feel-good mood and if there’s one thing I’m sure of after leaving the gig, it’s that the world can live without The View for a while because Kyle leaves you wanting more and more of his solo gigs.

I'd recommend anyone to go and see Kyle Falconer live because every aspect of the show made this gig a great one!
