Tuesday 23rd April was a time I had been looking forward to for a long long time, as JAWS would

eventually take to the stage at Glasgows King Tuts, with support from Glasgow’s own Acrylic and

London based Honey Love.

JAWS were by far one of the most unique bands live, not only with their sound being super close to

their recordings but with their lighting being made up of vintage lamps dotted all over the stage.

The crowd were all absolutely buzzing from the moment I waked in, but perhaps that was more the

cider talking with them all being younger students, unfortunately missing Acrylic (but I’m sure I’ll

catch them again soon!)

Honey Love were something in another world of their own, having never head of them before I had

no idea what to expect but as soon as the first note was played with the lead guitar everyone had

their total attention. Their grungey pop punk sound felt like a nostalgia trip of spending weeks

absorbing the sounds of Nirvana. From their set as a whole the boys are definitely not afraid to

dabble into each sub genre, with the second last song of their set being of their heaviest but most

upbeat songs.

JAWS

After an insanely long soundcheck time had arrived for the boys to take to the stage and with

the light up of their huge neon JAWS sign that was it, King Tut’s was in an absolute uproar. Opening with "Looking/Passing" all I could hear were the droned out bass lines and the crowd shouting every word back to them. It took the boys a few couple of songs to give the usual introduction and how buzzing they are to be here, with a response being followed of our true Scottish patter of ‘Here we’s’ leaving Connor in awe and only able to respond with ‘yeah this is sick’.

The set was a pretty stead mix of their more melancholy popular songs such as Stay in and Fruit, equally met with their more sprightful and light-hearted Driving At Night and Feel allowing the usual pits to take up majority of the sweaty, clammy room. The whole night felt like it had totally flown by as each song had merged into another until they left the stage before returning for their encore, Gold. JAWS were phenomenal live and would highly recommend you make it to the next gig in November.
