Following the release of the groups fifth studio album "Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost, Part 1", Foals announced a European tour including 28 dates in various cities throughout the continent. With the album being critically acclaimed with many successful singles and the band having a reputation for amazing live shows this tour was destined to be something special.
The night began with support from indie rock group Kiev. The groups distinct sound with the combined use of a saxophone and keys with an alternative rock style, sounded great. The music itself was interesting to listen to as well as impressive and lead singer Robert Brinkerhoff's interaction with the crowd was great and warmed everyone up perfectly for a night of great music. Kiev was followed by second support from the English rock group, Yak. The bands set consisted off upbeat and punchy alternative music. The set was full of energy start to finish and created a similar energy in the crowd as the audience grew more and more excited. The groups heavier style helped hype up the venue and left people eager too hear more music.
Soon after, Foals opened with On the Luna from their newest album. The bands set was explosive from the very beginning as they kicked of the show in a burst of energy which remained throughout. The entire capacity of 4000 was instantly drawn in by the bands performance and the song finished with applause erupting through the crowd. The bands music live sounded the same as the carefully mixed and mastered works of their albums clearly showing the ability and talent of each member.
The set followed with the songs "Mountain at My Gates" and "Snake Oil" from their 2015 album "What Went Down". From the opening of "Snake Oil" there was an instant change in the crowd. This was the first track the band played which was heavier and of a more rock style and this had a great effect on the crowd. Fans jumped around as the yard filled with life as a buzz of excitement and sheer joy as the band played.
The four piece continued playing tracks from each of their albums including fan favourites such as "My Number" and some of their most successful singles like "Spanish Sahara". Throughout the entire set lead singer, Yannis Philippakis interacted with the crowd making the large venue feel much smaller as he joined the audience multiple times standing at barrier with fans and walking down the front so each side of the audience got an equal experience. In addition to this he spoke to the crowd checking in with everyone as it began to rain. This created an intimacy in the venue and brought fans closer to the group which is also a positive experience at any gig.
The band continued with a variety of tracks both old and new. The set list overall was great containing songs that would please each fan. Tracks such as "Inhaler" and "Sunday" shown the variety within the bands music and in addition to this each song within the set kept the crowd full of life.
The band finished with an Encore of "What went Down" and "Two Steps Twice". Both songs were
explosive and ended the night perfectly. The crowd were left chanting and cheering for more after having had a great time despite the rain
.
Overall Foals were are not to be missed. From the bands set list to the groups performance, each aspect of the show was something to remember. The Foals reputation for live performance is definitely well deserved and they are definitely a band to look out for. With amazing tracks from their new album and their tour continuing being almost entirely sold out, Foals have amazing things to come. The show lefts fans eager to hear more and created massive amounts of excitement for part two of their album, "Not Everything Saved Will Be Lost" which is to be released in Autumn of this year.
