Body type are a four-piece all girl band made up of Sophie (guitar and vocals), Annabel (guitar and vocals), Cecil (drums) and Georgia (vocals and bass) originating all the way from Sydney, Australia.
After listening to their EP’s on Spotify, I was intrigued to see them live. The band have a very unique sound unalike anything I’ve heard before! It’s exciting when you come across a band with a different style as those type of live shows can be rare.

After meeting with Sophie and Annabel prior to the gig at local Glasgow venue, Broadcast, they announced that not only was this Body Type’s first appearance in Scotland, but this was also going to be the first date of their UK tour since their second EP had been released – what an exclusive gig!
Talking to the girls about the music industry in Australia, their own music and influence behind their lyrics, I already knew the girls had a huge passion, however, seeing them on stage was very special to witness.
The girls were totally in awe during the gig - with their hippy rock vibes and carefree attitude, the set was exhilarating. At one point, Sophie joined the group for a boogie during one of the songs - amazing to see such great crowd recognition.
They're the type of band you'd go and see not knowing anything about but by the end, you leave wanting more. I could have watched them all night - it was exciting, fun and passionate - everything you want at a gig!

My favourite song of the night was from their new EP, ‘Free to Air’. One minute it’s a calm, chilled vibe with Annabel’s vocal range beautifully soaring the room and then suddenly, the crescendo bursts in, creating an intense but thrilling chorus… ‘Ad-break, heartbreak, ad-break… despair.’ ‘Broken. Signal. Broken Man - he only turns on when he turns off … Free to Air’. I’ve never seen anything like it before in my life.
I’m terrible for sometimes zoning out at gigs and drifting off into my own wee world however, Body Type had me fully drawn to them from start to finish especially with this song. Intrigued by the interesting choice of lyrics I spoke to Annabel before the show to get an insight of the influence behind it.
She stated that the song was written about a neighbour, she used to live beside in which she could overhear all his conversations and stories. I think it’s incredible how someone can come up with such a beautiful song by just overhearing a random conversation. It just goes to show the clear gift that the band have with not just performing but with lyrics too.
The energy from the girls is unbelievable – they all get so lost in their performance it’s amazing to watch. A lot of their songs feature long instrumental breaks which I love to see in a live performance – it totally shows the extent of their talent. A real band that sound just as good if not better live than in the recordings.
Although, it's still pretty early on in their career - I'm glad I discovered them when I did as they have a lot of potential! Excited to see what else is in store for the Aussie girls and can't wait to see them back in Scotland again soon!
