This was my first gig of 2019 and I was really looking forward to it. It felt like this gig was announced so long ago but I think was more to do with January being the longest month ever.
First to take to the stage were After Party. They were a late replacement for The Time Sheets who had to pull out. However the 4 piece band from Arbroath, although only a 3 piece on the night, opened the gig well. Their Facebook page describes themselves as a "rock/pop band" however I would desercibe them as more garage rock. This was my first time seeing them and they put on a good set. I look forward to hopefully catching them again soon as I always like to see local bands performing.
Next to take to the stage were Live To Do. They are a 5 piece band from Stirling. Like After Party, I hadn't seem them before. They put on a good set and I particularly liked their use of two keyboard players in certain songs that certainly worked. However I felt like they were a wee bit out of place on the line up as they didn't have the same sort of sound. With that being said however they did put on a good performance full of energy and passion.
The penultimate act to take to the stage were Ruvellas. This is a band that are no strangers to being featured in a Discovery Music review. However like I have said before, I love how much potential these young lads have. At only 17 years old they have plenty of time on their side. A sizeable crowd has appeared to show their support for the band. Each time I see them play they seem to get more confident and more tighter as band which is reflected in the performance they put on. If you haven't seen them live yet then I highly recommend you get a long to see them ASAP!
Finally it was time for Saint-Louie to headline the evening. Another band who are no stranger to being featured in a Discovery Music review either. They have recently undergone a line up change with Seth and Leonard joining original members Owen and Ross.Having last saw them a wee while ago, I was interested to see what new things they had been working on and they did not fail to disappoint. With Leonard adding huge energetic presence on lead guitar and Seth a cool, calmness on Bass to the line up the band gave the best performance I have saw from them to date. From the early days on the band starting to now it's like night and day as many of the songs have changed but all for the better. As their set came to an end, the crowd chanted for one more tune and the band duly delivered. A superb set that included a couple of new tunes too.
A great night of live music. Well done to ATM Music for putting the gig on. Hope to see them do more gigs in Dundee in the future.
