I am delighted to see that another one of Scotland's best young up and coming bands have chosen to come to Dundee as part of their next tour. Often overlooked sometimes as a destination of bands to stop off in for a gig, The Dundee music scene is really starting to become a regular fixture in bands tour listings which I am very happy about. A big well done to Ginger Jesus Promotions for playing a huge part in getting these bands to Dundee.
Glasgow based indie punk-rock band have received much critical acclaim in their short history of gigging around the Scottish music scene. Infusing old school punk bands like Sex pistols and The Clash, with a pinch of garage and hint of Arctic Monkeys. You might be left wondering how they seamlessly managed to transcend a few decades in just one song! Having played well known venues such as King Tut’s and Stereo, not to mention a successful UK tour. This year they will also appear at Reading and Leeds festival, not something just any band gets to do. They are also due to release their second EP later in 2018 and have been featured as the BBC Introducing Pick of the week, this young band are simply ripping up the Scottish music scene.
Supporting their gig in Dundee will be The Roques and Ruvellas. Pumping out some good old guitar music will be the former of the two, they bring a raw sound that reminds you rock & roll is not dead, in fact it is very alive, and The Roques are bringing it. They are a five piece from Dundee with influences coming from the likes of Last Shadow Puppets and Brian Jonestown Massacre. Having already played alongside other up and coming acts such as Beta Waves and Rascalton, they are one to watch and will surely be achieving big things before the year is out.
The latter is Ruvellas, another homegrown, straight out of Dundee outfit. Their primary influences come from big names such as Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles and Catfish and the Bottlemen, again they traverse genres and are bringing life back to old, but tried and tested favourites. Their goal is to ‘revitalise the music scene and help others enjoy some familiar sounding songs whilst keeping and original and passionate style’. At just the age of 16 they still have a lot of ground to cover but have made so many leaps forward already. Having seem them a few times now, I am always keen to watch a band process when playing live and hope to see another classy performance from the young but talented 5 piece outfit.
