Having released their new track ‘Love, Love. Love’ July this year, Beta Waves have rapidly reached critical acclaim, despite the fact they are a still a very young outfit they are churning out the singles. Their past performances include big events such as XpoNorth, the duo is comprised of Dale and Harry who bring a synth pop, highly danceable setlist. With some of their main influences including Tame Impala, MGMT, Empire of the Sun and POND. It’s the feel-good antidote to any of your week’s blues. Beta Waves have been described as “a happy accident”. They started off in a jazz/blues quartet, playing ‘vintage songs’ when after some tinkering with electronic drums and synths everything changed. It was from then that Beta Waves gained traction and combined the beauty of familiar pop vocals with heavy, warming synths to bring something a little extra special to the Scottish music scene. I would expect big things from their upcoming headline gig at The Church in Dundee.
Supporting this stellar outfit are Parliamo and Devon. Parliamo are Perth base youngsters who are strumming up a storm on the Scottish music scene. They have already been aired on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Wales with their main influences coming from classics such as The Clash, Talking Heads and The Stone Roses. Bringing explosive energy to every gig I can’t imagine their performance on Friday will be anything less than immense. They played at this year’s Belladrum festival on the Seedlings stage. With their single ‘Lucy’ getting recognition from John Kennedy on Radio X. They are simply bounding from one great gig to the next. Their EP ‘The Thrill of the Chase’ is a showstopper and the guys love the chance to share their songs with their audience.
This is a characteristic of all three acts at this event. Including the last of the line-up, Devon. Hailing from down in Gloucester, in the idyllic Forest of Dean. The producer, singer-songwriter and multi skilled musician takes his inspiration from such superstars as Michael Jackson, Beck, and Twenty One Pilots. His debut single ‘Weirdo’ was picked up by BBC introducing and he has since toured with the Strypes. His sound is more akin to that of Beta Waves, with a more electronic, neo-soul type agenda. Already with a strong following down South, he is continuing to grow his fan base in Scotland. After the gig with Beta Waves he will play at the Glasgow-music-scene-must-see Tenement Trail, as well as Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh.
All three acts are just at the beginning of the music careers. The anticipation for what they could evolve into is epically exciting. The new material keeps coming, and I can imagine they all have a very solid future ahead of them. Tickets are still available at the links below, you’re getting a fair whack for your money with this lineup so don’t let this one slip through your calendar.
