GIG PREVIEW | BBC Music Introducing @ King Tut's Wah Wah Hut |28.3.19

BBC Music Introducing have been giving acts across the UK a chance to showcase their talents at gigs, festivals and sessions for years and have been the saviour for many of the UK’s now most popular artists in being a catalyst for the breakthrough they needed. BBC Introducing next take to King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, one of the UK’s most famous venues and notably being the spot for the discovery of Oasis. With both BBC Introducing and King Tut’s always eager to provide artists to discover, this gig will take place on Thursday the 28th of March and has some of Scotland’s best talent with Brownbear headlining and support coming from Billy Mitchell, Luke La Volpe and Deni Smith.

Deni Smith

First on the bill we have Dunfermline based artist Deni Smith who gives a brilliantly warm feeling to listeners while still incorporating a vintage feel to her songs. Deni Smith reminds me of a Scottish Lily Allen, with the same sort of catchy guitar melodies as the hit singer but with a joyful Scottish spin. Deni has had some very well-deserved attention from radio stations such as Castle FM and Amazing radio and some great nods from The Scotsman and the Dunfermline Press. We can’t wait to see Deni Smith turn more heads in the Scottish scene and she is sure to have King Tut's sun-drenched with her upbeat tracks- no matter how dreary the weather may be.

Luke La Volpe

One of the most unique acts I’ve heard for a while, Luke La Volpe will make a refreshing addition to this impressive line-up. Frontman Luke and his band give a very strong soulful power to all their tracks. With a blues intensity thrown into the mix, Luke La Volpe have an impressive sound which gives them their profoundly cool feeling which is so celebrated in the Scottish music scene. With the Bathgate lads obtaining support slots for artists such as Gerry Cinnamon and Tom Clarke (The Enemy) in the past, it’s safe to say they are well and truly on our radar for ones to watch. With all the boys previously having separate music careers, they decided to come together in 2017 and we are very very glad they did as their modern, yet old school rock n roll tracks give the music scene today, something really special.

Billy Mitchell

Next up we have Billy Mitchell, his tunes give everything you look for from an indie pop artist with the perfect Dundonian twist. Billy Mitchell’s tracks are tremendous tunes to sing along to, the type of songs you scream to your pals in the midst of a bouncing crowd. After having huge support from fellow Dundonians The View and the band’s frontman Kyle Falconer, Billy Mitchell quickly made a name for himself in the scene and supported the band at the final date on their ‘ta ta for now’ tour at the Caird Hall in December 2017. I saw Billy Mitchell myself that night and loved the spirit he brought to the stage and I have no doubt that he’ll bring the same energy on the 28th of March.

Brownbear (braunber)

Headlining the bill for this great gig are Brownbear, a four-piece alternative indie band hailing from Ayrshire. After the release of their debut single ‘Dead or Alive’ in 2014, the Brownbear boys supported none other than the Libertines at their comeback shows at the Barrowlands and Hyde Park- what a way to begin their time in the industry. The Brownbear lads give exactly the right amount of chirpy tones and rhythms, giving the same sort of vibe and feeling as the Kooks but with more mature vocals and a sort of relaxed haziness. Brownbear are the perfect summer love song band and are sure to have King Tuts bouncing with their infectious energy. They are most definitely not an act to be missed.
