EH6 Festival Preview|23rd, 24th, 25th November

Normally known for its beautiful seafront views and Bistros, Leith is getting lucky next weekend with a massive 3 days of music, not to mention a wealth of Scottish talent sending good vibes right the way through from Friday to Sunday. No less than 44 acts will sprawl their sparkling musical talents across three venues: Leith Theatre, Thomas Morton Hall and the Biscuit Factory (including a separate acoustic stage!).

The Friday will see such up and coming talents as Carrie Mac, a Fleetwood Mac/Christina Aguilera inspired singer/songwriter/ musician from Edinburgh. Having already played renowned venues such as King Tut’s earlier this year and with her recent single release “Saved” she is absolutely storming up the support both local and country-wide. A spectacle not to be missed, both for her talents and her prowess in performance. Likewise, Adullboy, another solo act who plays frank and gritty tunes with an old-school indie-rock feel. Another Scottish act coming at you on the Friday is ‘The Fairy Modfather’ Nick Shane. A Dundee based class act. You can also catch Prestonpans originators, The Rah’s. According to their bio, they ‘only play real music’, like you needed any more reason to check out this champion of musical weekends. They are a 5 piece who play tunes in the realm of indie and rock ‘n’ roll, winning awards such as Radio Wigwam’s Best Indie/Alt Band. You’ll also have the chance to hear from the likes of TH13VES, a regular favourite over here at Discovery, as well as Banter Thiefs, another Scottish act. Coming from Motherwell, the four-piece have proved to be an unstoppable force on the live music scene, banging out good tunes and good chat at several venues in just the last few months alone. Along with other mystifying appearances to behold, including Nigel Clark, The Bright Skies, Th B, Scott Ashworth, Lilac Melt and Irie Yoyo.

Continuing this extravaganza on the Friday are another Edinburgh based ensemble, Rituals. They played Electric Fields Festival earlier this year, as well as supporting acts such as Black Cat Bone who will be playing the Saturday, we’ll get to that. Rituals also appeared on BBC Music’s Introducing. Miracle Glass Company also hail from Edinburgh, and have been referred to as being ‘louder than war’. Bring it on. Then finally some of the bigger names on the show reel include Chris Helme from The Seahorses, as well as Kyle Falconer of the well-loved band The View. Brownbear will also be present, and you can expect big things following on from their year of stacked successes that will shake your bones with their ground-breaking presence. Finally tying off the roll call for Friday, will be the utter institution that is The Coral. Need I say more.

Onto the second instalment of EH6: the jam packed Saturday. Around thirty acts, that’s so many hours of music just waiting for you to dive in. You’ll be witness to the likes of Jonny Ward, SUPA and the Kryptonites, Root System, Luke La Volpe, Craig Wares, Run into the Night, Donnal Quinn, Sunstinger, Roelle Blue, The Ronains, Cheap Teeth, Oskar Braves, Beta Waves, The Shows, Black Cat Bone, Dogtooth, Logan’s Close, Black Diamond Express, Johnny Brown, Emma Milligan, Tommy, McGuire, Amy Lou, Sauce, Strange Blue Dreams, Mathew McGhie, Hayley Beavis, Billy Mitchell and The Micro Band. Deep breath, are you ready for the remaining run off of who’s who in Scotland’s music prestige right now?

Saturday will also be home to Shambolics, who bring with them the oomf of a supersonic soundwave. They have just released their latest single ‘My Time Is Now’ which is gaining masses of airtime as we speak. A ‘dreamy’ kind of rock & roll, they also received the award for the ‘Best Rock/Alternative Act’ at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards in 2017. With equal measures of greatness are Vida, all the way from Alloa, this 5-piece bring you 90’s Britpop loaded with glints of psychedelia and a sound that is ‘reborn, resurgent and alive’. Joining them will be Rascalton. From Glasgow, they’ll be offering up all the Punk feels, the gritty, no-nonsense, backbone beat to your Saturday evening. They’ve played gigs up and down the country, as well as well making appearances in and around Europe. Similarly, worth a special mention are The Snuts and Ruvellas, both have firmly cemented their footprints in the path to Scottish musical fame over the past year, and the work they put into their fans and their musical projects is simply humbling. Jake Bugg, who will not be unbeknown to many of you, is the final name to drop that concludes this epic Saturday of performances.

On Sunday the 25th November, the event will start to dwindle, reducing its stages to just three with Thomas Morton Hall playing Acoustic music all day from Robin Ashcroft, Billy, Bibby, Cal Roberts, Billy Mitchell (for a second appearance) and further guests to be announced on the day, just to keep things suspenseful. Adding to the line-up will be Connor Fyfe, Carly Connor Acoustic and non-acoustic, Aaron Wright, Banshee, Wolves, Lucia and not to mention the highly anticipated after party running until 1am with a special guest yet to be announced. Some highlights of the evening include Kieran Fisher a solo act from Stirling who has supported fellow talent such as Kyle Falconer. His album ‘Pay for the Privilege’ brings you that earthy, all-encompassing sound that grounds you and makes you feel at home. Dylan John Thomas is of a similar ilk, with that heavy traditional indie brashness, that Scottish-ness that sends all kinds of patriotic pride into your gut and fills your boots up to the brim with utter joy. He will also support Gerry Cinnamon at an up and coming gig, Gerry is the final act of the weekend. No stranger to successes throughout the country, his career started out playing underground gigs around Glasgow, and just this summer pulled the biggest crowd to TRSMT festival ever seen! An acoustic blues singer who brings a unique indie sound, he takes his influences from those such as The Beatles and the Brian Jonestown Massacre.

If you’ve made it this far, you’ll know already this event is not to be missed. At the time of writing, there are still some day tickets available for Friday and Saturday if you’re lucky enough to get along. There will be lots of craft bear and good grub on the go too, so go get yourself a massive weekend!
