Hailing from Glasgow, 100 Fables got together from their joint love for the '80s new wave and post-punk electro sound.
Some of their inspirations include Blondie, Altered Images, Gerard Way, The Cars, Le Tigre and The Killers. You can hear the odd influence throughout their tracks but their own sound prevails as something distinctly “100 Fables”.
Taken from their own words - “The band have made a firm mark over the last 18 months, with show-stealing appearances at festivals like Belladrum, Isle Of Wight and Carnival 56 as well as storming supporting slots with acts as diverse as Glasvegas, The View, Girli, Gun and Deacon Blue.”
Their latest track "Complications" has had tremendous support so far and it's clear why on the first listen.
Erin Reidy and Harris Hiscoe lead the way with one of those funky melodies in both the guitar and bass that begs to be danced to. Chris Stewart’s drumming throughout sets the bass and drives the track to where it needs to be.
Lyndsey Knox’s playful vocals ring out and the mention of space stations seals the deal in thinking a roller disco in outer space is going on.
The chorus of “All these complications, all these frustrations” leads way to turning up the groove of the kit and we are treated to some chang-a-langing from the guitar.
The song returns to the original beat and we hear some of Lyndsey’s inner Valley Girl “Okay okay okaaaaaay”. It is summer after all!
Builds up to that right gid groove you can’t not bop your head to again for the chorus before breaking down with some higher percussion and blasting off (like a spaceship) into the last section.
Squealing vocals from Lyndsey take the song to peak excitement levels before returning to the intro of basic drums and bass.
A simple song with an excellent bass line to make it memorable. I seem to be saying this about most of the tunes I review but this song should make your summer playlist.
