The Vida boys are back with an absolute bang, with their new song ‘When the Sun,’ which premiered yesterday.
Unlike previous tracks released by the band, this song is a perfect way to end another incredible music filled summer in Scotland.
The simplistic harmonica melody accompanied by a steady guitar rhythm allowing the track to gradually develop before being introduced to lead singer Jamie Pollock’s vocals and complimenting harmonies.
‘When the Sun’ is a far more stripped back track in comparison to songs the band have released before such as ‘Switch It Off,’ and their most recent song ‘Take It Easy,’ which was released earlier this year.
They have already proven themselves by producing similar songs such as ‘Where We Came From,’ and the favourite ‘Fade Away,’ but what makes this new track stand out more so is just how stripped back it is. Unlike these other tracks, ‘When the Sun’ features very little drumbeats but instead features one simple progression that repeats through the middle to the end of the track without a crescendo.
Vida are one of the coolest bands around in Scotland right now, there is absolutely no doubt about it, but this track has shown a softer side to the group which I think is extremely admirable. The band have shown great versatility and have proven they can go from all things attitude to producing a genuinely beautiful song.
The track is a love song, but not your typical love song in the sense that its slightly doom and gloom, no, ‘When the Sun’ is all about the ups and you can tell that throughout the vibe of the entire song, allowing it to be upbeat and giving it that warm feel to it as you listen.
Jamie Pollock said: “I thought it would be one of those songs that I kept to myself but as soon as the boys heard it, it was inevitable that it would become a Vida single. It’s a love song, simple as that.”
The boys will be performing at Glasgow’s all new Indian Summer festival alongside The Shambolics, Kyle Falconer and many more on 30th August and you can catch them at the Barrowland’s on the 12th of October for part of this year’s Tenement Trail.
