Originating from Lossiemouth these North East rockers are keen to make their mark on the Scottish music scene. The four formed in 2016 and since then they have been impressing us with their talent of showcasing different sounds. The single 'Alive' released by the band back in March this year got a very well reception from listeners and at Belladrum they smashed their set at the Seedlings Stage where they were opening with a very busy crowd to impress. The band are due to support Kyle Falconer this week and The Dunts at the end of October.
Their newest release is in fact set to stun critics and fans as it's a summer ballad with an almost 70s like retro spin on it, the kind of song you'd like to sip a cocktail to and in my opinion everyone needs this kind of uplifting tune in their lives. Opening with a funk inspired bass melody that plays continuously throughout which is almost guaranteed to make you want to dance and this is refreshing as it shows the band know how to impact the way listeners are feeling, a skill some lack.
When we hear the vocals there's a real groove tone set over the song which again ties in with the whole 70s funk/boogie tune 'You wanna be like me' is sang all the way throughout making it a simply catchy anthem that will forever stay in the minds of listeners. Being able to take a risk and use experimental sounds within the rock genre has really paid off, so simplistic but somehow has the potential to be the making of The Roov which is huge!! I love it!
Judging by this single The Roov are different from artists in the same genre and are having fun with their sound which is a playful way to find out what listeners enjoy, something I think every band should do. I'm excited to see what comes next from them as there's no telling when and how their style could change which really excites me! These boys are really destined for great things!
