A relatively new band emerging from the Dundee music scene is 4 piece Th13ves. The name, despite causing havoc with my computers auto-correct and making me very stressed because of the wee bumpy red lines appearing in my article, is one that definitely sticks in the mind. The band are coming straight out the blocks with a huge debut track called 'Dreamers' which oozes with summer vibes perfect for the bout of unusually hot weather we are having here Bonnie Scotland.
The song itself begins with some distant guitar noise which soon kicks into some big distorted open chords that grabs your attention and doesn't let go for the duration of the track. The chorus of the song then kicks in unexpectedly taking the tune to a higher level. It was difficult to take my mind off making comparisons of the vocalists voice with that of big Noel G or even Grant Nicholas of Welsh millennial rockers Feeder. After a few repeated listens of the track I noticed a clean guitar arpeggio hidden under the many layers of the track, this bypassed my ears the first few listens but now I know its there I notice it every time I hear the song. Later in the track the lead guitarist takes the spotlight with a very well constructed guitar solo that leads to a breakdown in the song with just the bass and drums taking over. This soon builds back into one final big chorus of "Oh im a dreamer" which is the perfect ending for an overall great track. (especially for a debut)
'Dreamers' will be released this Friday (29/6) along with a music video, if the teaser video is anything to go by I suggest checking out the music video too and taking in the full audio/visual package. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for these guys in the rest of 2018 as they have more songs in the pipeline to follow up this debut release, a tough act to follow but I can't wait to hear it.
