Single Review| Velvet | Sex and Suicide References

If you’re a fan of Radiohead, Blur and rock legends The Smiths then you’ll love up and coming Glasgow band Velvet. Proving a storm with the locals, their newest release “Sex and Suicide References” is not one for the faint-hearted. The rich vocals combined with a slick guitar melody gives off an edgy feel, with both parts beautifully intertwining with one another, creating a highly sophisticated and unique sound.

Playing across some of Glasgow’s most well known music venues with the likes of The O2 Academy, Broadcast and King Tuts, the band are set up for great things in the upcoming months. Their ability to recapture the magic in their previous singles, whilst still holding an element of uniqueness to their newest release is usually a rare find in new bands. Their second EP “Holy Days of Obligation” is also due to be released and it’s no doubt going to give them the breakthrough that they deserve. Seeing the band progress from their earlier release “Underglow” to their newest release perfectly demonstrates the work ethic all five of them possess, as well as showcasing their obvious musical abilities.
