Freshly striking Glaswegian four-piece Spyres have finally released their masterful debut single 'Otherside' and it's safe to say this has been a lush treat for everyone! Only just formed as a full band in February there’s been no stopping these guys ever since. They are even set to support local punk heroes Baby Strange next month at SWG3.
So, it was only right that they surprised us with ‘Otherside’ recorded by Johnny Madden and Chris Marshall at 7 West Studios this tune is a female fronted masterpiece! Having relations to PJ Harvey, The Van T’s, Wolf Alice and Courtney Barnett I was excited to see what would come from this new single. With prominent bass lines looming and the solo guitar doing it‘s bit to help create that heavy grunge vibe. The transition from low toned bass lines to high creates an intriguing contrast from the into to outro which gives the song a fuller feeling.
The female vocals over the instrumental are truly hypnotising and somewhat emotional, this is such a unique sound for a young band to have at this early stage in their career which screams potential to me.
In my opinion Spyres have the riotous sound and cleverly-written lyrics to help them survive on the ever growing Glasgow scene and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next!
