It’s been such a long time since I have heard anything like this new single from Post Ironic State. ‘What the Hell is Going On?’ sends us hurtling into a time warp heading straight back to the 80s.
Think Joy Division meets modern day band Spector. Releasing the single June 16, the new wave band describe the single as “a song for people who have been in love, but have never been loved”.
Upbeat synth tones pair up well with the deep and moody vocals of lead singer Jai McCann. I feel like I have transported back in time when I hear this song, its nostalgic and dreamy demeanor compelling all to listen.
The Scottish band are set to tour their single across Scotland in the coming months, already having played a well-received show at Nice ‘n’ Sleazy’s on June 20. Their next confirmed gig will be at King Tuts Summer Nights on August 23 and more dates for Post Ironic State are yet to be confirmed.
Known for their awkward yet intense stage presence, the band are a force to be reckoned with, rising up quickly in the Scottish music scene. Busting out melodic rhythms and adding in their 80s synth, Post Ironic State have a completely unique sound that is not commonly heard nowadays in the music industry.
I look forward to seeing what the band come up with next.
