Josephine Sillars + The Manic Pixie Dreams have released their second single of 2019. On the 19th of July, perhaps not coincidentally on the day before the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, 'The Sun and the Moon' came out. Steering away from some of their previous releases, 'The Sun and the Moon' is a melodic ballad that gives an insight into what the Glasgow/Highland based band are capable off.
Lead vocalist and keys, Josephine Sillars softly sings a modern story of forgotten love. Reflecting on a relationship, the lyrics use the sun and the moon as an insightful metaphor for all the contrasts that could tear a heart in two, and pull it back together again. Sillars voice is accompanied by upbeat drums and warm acoustics. The gentle guitar sounds give the song a folky feel, floating along with the rest of the tune into several melodic hooks.
Later, the track takes on a more uplifting approach as backing vocals come in. Introducing a round nearing the end, we hear touching harmonies which create a heartfelt ending. This is a simple yet elegant, summery song which pleases the ear.
The band, who have played extensively across Scotland, have also played in Europe and Internationally. They recently supported Chris Greig & The Merchants as part of Glasgow's King Tut's Wah Wah Hut's Summer Nights Festival and played the Blue Arrow in Glasgow last Friday!
