SIIGHTS, composed of Mia Fitz and Toni Etherson, are a musical duo from Ireland and Scotland (respectively). Individually they worked as song writers, but met in 2016 when Mia was touring with Hozier. Initially writing songs for other performers, the duo decided to take their creativity into the spotlight after receiving critical acclaim from radio stations all over the world, including the likes of Greg James from BBC Radio 1 and big-shot Dutch DJ Sam Feldt.
Producing and writing their own songs, SIIGHTS blend modern Electronic-Pop with vibrant Disco and Funk, already ensuring themselves a valued place in modern dance music. Their latest single, Got it, is a perfect example of their fun and fresh energy: the video, with brilliant dancers in skateparks and hallways, works brilliantly with the electric flow of their sound. This song is so active: even writing this article in a quiet library, my feet and head can’t help but move to the tune.
Don’t make the mistake in thinking SIIGHTS are just making light-hearted dance; their previous song, Alive, mixes motivation and electric together in a smooth-beat track focusing on overcoming weakness and surviving tribulation. The beat of the track, underlined by both a dark knell and a mechanical reverb, transforms the sadness of the song and its meaning into an inspiring piece of music. The girls also emphasise the message “I WILL NOT SPEAK YOUR WORDS” in a powerful bridge, as the chorus conveys the beauty of the song: “I lost myself but I know I’ll survive, ‘cause I’m alive.”
This pair are ground-breaking in their work, both to get a crowd moving and to stir a few hearts, as they embody both gentleness and invigoration in their music. SIIGHTS will be at King Tuts, Glasgow, on September the 8th in their first ever headline show. They will be supported by Tamzene & Shears, so this is sounding like a fantastic night. You can catch also SIIGHTS on Facebook, Instagram, Soundcloud, Youtube, and Twitter, and watch their space – the only way for these girls is up.
