Retro Video Club, Neil Morrison Band & Novella @ Conroys Dundee, 08/06/18

After a long week at work what better way to unwind than that a local gig containing three great bands? Well that's exactly how I spent my Friday night. It felt like this gig had been a long time in coming since it was announced but it was well worth the wait.

First up were Novella. For regular readers of my gig ramblings, I have seen these lads quite a lot over the last few months and had them on the bill at the charity gig I was involved with. Every time I've saw them there has been an improvement and this was no different. They now look much more relaxed on stage which is great to see and also they sounded tighter as a band which is always a bonus. Overall a great performance and keep up the good work. Practice and the gig experience is definitely showing.

Next up were The Neil Morrison Band. Its been a good while since I saw Neil and his band play,I think the last time was at Dukes Corner last year sometime. I always enjoy seeing them play their psychedelic rock style of music on stage. Resembling Robert Smith from The Cure,Neil along with his band mates they set up on stage. They played a fantastic set that has become the norm these days when seeing them live. Hopefully I don't need to wait another six months to see them at a gig again! If you get the chance to seem play then go and do it!

Finally it was time for the headliners- Retro Video Club. For those who don't know who they are, they are a four piece indie rock band from Edinburgh. This was the first time they had played in Dundee so it was great to be at their debut in my hometown. As they took to the stage a near capacity crowd in Conroys went mental which continued on through their set. I have wanted to see them for a while and for one reason or another haven't been able to but I'm happy I have now. They played one of the best live sets I have heard this year and I recon it will be pretty hard to top it. It was clear to see why these guys are making big waves in the Scottish music scene. Also they have over 500,000 plays on their song Chemistry on Spotify, not bad going considering this was their first Scottish tour. I cannot wait to see them again and hopefully they will have some new music out soon too!

All this cost £6. An absolute bargain.
