Primes are a 3-piece alternative rock-band hailing from the central belt. They debuted earlier this year with Breathe, a suave and sexy track highlighting their talents in alternative rock and beauty of the trio’s individual talents of vocals and instruments all working in harmony. Back in June, Primes released Together Forever, a ballad closer to the roots of Scottish rock and still as uniquely talented. The music video for this song weaves a pretty interesting story with some smart grey visuals too, so check it out here.
A smooth drum beat and a melancholy guitar track precedes the lead singer’s vocals, which are rich with a country tinge. One of the lyrics in the first verse really stood out to me, and I feel it sums up the ballad: “I always believed in the good fight / but there’s no fight left in me now.” The duo of both male (Ollie) and female (Sarah) vocals in the chorus create a hearty union of emotion, expressing a sense of vulnerability and exhaustion that only comes at the later stages of a romantic fight.
Sarah’s vocals add depth to the second verse, discussing the weakness of love: despite all the days you’d “like to forget” there are the fantastic moments that rebuild and rekindle the love shared. The beat in silence sounds like a penny-drop, just like the moment when the two stop fighting and the love rushes back in: this song is an audio representation of how tough love needs to be. The bridge following the chorus – repeating the song title, “Together Forever”, alongside a great guitar solo – lead the song out wonderfully.
I love a good ballad. I love anything with a strong story, and this song is no exception. The fatigue from the story is just as evident as the care these two share for each other, and Together Forever demonstrates how to weave a plot into a song alongside brilliant instrumental talent and powerful vocals. I’m excited to hear their next track, BODIES, will be available later in October, so keep watch.
