A Sunday night gig at the Barras is definitely the ideal hangover cure!

A couple of weeks ago, Australian superstar, Tash Sultana took on the infamous Barrowlands in a sold out show and what a gig it was!

I first discovered Tash Sultana when I came across a video of her busking in Melbourne. I’d never heard of her before but as soon as I seen the video, I was instantly blown away.

She just has this extraordinary voice on record that has the gift of making you zone out of reality for a while so can you imagine how insane it was live?!

One minute she’s singing and playing guitar, the next she’s playing the trumpet and drums all for the same song! I’ve never seen anything like it in my life which just shows the amount of musical talent she has.

Whilst she was playing, the visuals on the screen behind her made the set that little bit more special. The visual aids blended beautifully with the lyrics of her music totally making you in awe.

It’s not just her musical talents I’d admire, Tash Sultana just comes across as such a strong woman who isn’t afraid to say how she feels and will stand up for what she believes in ... a real role model.

Half way through the set, she lit up the room in order to see the Glaswegian crowd. ‘This is the most diverse crowd I have seen in this tour so far’, she stated. It’s a pretty remarkable thing as music is the one thing that can bring everyone together. It’s the one thing that allows me to escape (or deal with) the realities of life and gigs like Tash Sultana’s can really help that.

Her vocal range can only be described as effortlessly beautiful. She just opens her mouth and this vibrant sound arises that instantly gives you goosebumps. A natural talent that I am so envy of.

The setlist covered a multiple of her electronic indie tunes including, ‘Mystik, Synergy and Jungle‘ but one song in particular made my night. Notion. This song has the power to make me feel things no other song has made me feel before. Regardless of what type of mood I’m in, be it - sad, happy, nostalgic, angry, content - it’s just my go-to-song! My ultimate happy place and seeing it live was just such a special moment.

Prior to the performance of ‘Notion’, Tash Sultana addressed the Scottish crowd and stated that there’s been a few times in her career in which she was thinking of give up music as she felt there was something missing. She went on to explain that she pushed through the difficult times and music was the one thing that helped her. This gave ‘Notion‘ that extra meaning and made it even more special live.

You forget sometimes that musicians are actual human beings and the music they write is written through experiences that anyone can face which can instantly allow people to connect with a certain song and as deep as it sounds, Tash Sultana’s music gives me that connection.

She and the crowd just get so lost together and what a pretty spectacular thing it is to witness. What a performance. Truly something i’ll never forget. It's gigs like this that leave an impact on me even weeks after the show.

For all those who haven’t heard or listened to Tash Sultana - I have a recommendation... find the song, ‘Notion‘ on Spotify and listen to it through earphones (it’s the type of song you really need to fully listen to without distractions) and just let it take you away from reality for a few minutes. Total bliss.
