We all know that this time of year is fun filled with parties, Christmas lunches, donning of ye old Christmas jumpers but it is also a fabulous time for music, and nothing screams a good night out as much as this absolute stonker of a showcase hosted by Baby Strange and PCL. The Line-up includes no less than The Vanities, CRYSTAL, Walt Disco, Voodoos, LUCIA, The Blinders, Neon Waltz with more to be announced.
First up is no stranger to the Discovery music platform. They are an indie/punk band from Glasgow and have had a busy year playing several noteworthy gigs with future appearances including The Stag and Dagger event coming up in the new year. The Vanities are a solid favourite in our repertoire.
Next are CRYSTAL, a four-piece grunge/punk band, also from Glasgow. Their first appearance was at the opening of Paulo Nutini’s ‘Night Afore’ gig as part of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations in 2016. They have made quite the impression since then, appearing on Tony Visconti’s Unsigned Heros and making what was seen as ‘an unforgettable impact’ at Wide Days 2018 for a sold-out show at La Belle Angele. The recent release of their single ‘Heaven’ has brought to life their infectiously raw, 90s grunge vibe, which is a beautifully brash reminiscence of bands such as Queens of the Stone Age and Wolf Alice.
Walt Disco are full of those 80s, synth-pop indie beats. Vibing from one synth wave to the next with some enormously talented band members. Their debut EP ‘No Need for a Curtain’ was released earlier this year. They are not only musically informed, but this EP is also about supporting women’s choices in all walks of life. Their honest message is humbling. They are known for putting on a flamboyant live show with a strong desire to make a difference at a grassroots level. They sum up the culture of Glasgow’s music scene in one set more than most ever will.
Also in the line-up are Voodoos. Having formed in 2016, this Glasgow based outfit released their debut EP ‘Late Night Early Morning’ this summer, resulting in an even stronger UK wide following. At their core, Voodoos are like an unabridged version of everything you ever wanted Glasgow’s indie music scene to be.
LUCIA, another band that emerged from the roots of Glasgow itself, are more in the rock ‘n’ roll genre, while still harbouring essences of indie influences. They will bring you something akin to Blondie, with raspy vocals and quirky idiosyncrasies. Their year has been filled with gigs up and down the country as well as featuring in interviews with NME and Euphoria. Their relentless showcasing of authentic real talk, combined with addictively rejuvenating sounds, just begs for you to go and have a listen.
The Blinders, unlike the others, are a Doncaster original outfit. Dates are already set for the 2019 UK and EU tour, spanning the wildest corners of the continent to bring you some of the goods from their latest album release ‘Columbia’. You can now find them in Manchester, where they have been welcomed with open arms and smiling ears. Their music is a distorted melange of clashy sounds pulsing through your veins like mood mediating vibrations that will take you on a journey through everything from the realms of brit pop to brazing indie.
Neon Waltz like to have a bit of fun when it comes to their tunes. Their video for their latest single ‘The Stranger Things’ shows the guys don’t take themselves too seriously while still delivering on quality and entertainment value in their stellar indie rock. This year they supported DMA’s on their UK tour, playing sold out shows across the UK, bending the beats of eloquent and heartfelt melodies. The guys are brimming with personality and primed for a memorable performance.
The Headliners for this already outstanding show are Baby Strange. They just released their new track 'Job in the City (Working for Nothing)’ in the past few days. Touring with the likes of Rascalton and other household names, this Glasgow based indie trio offer a plethora of magically charged tunes, rampant with catchy hooks and sublime choruses. The have already made quite a mark on the UK wide music scene and will be nothing short of amazing at this upcoming gig.
