From his hometown of Glasgow, Fragile X is an electronic mastermind who has a solid history of writing and producing local electro music on the Scottish scene. His self-described “Lo-fi ambient, shoegaze” has gained traction and a solid following. The most recent release “Farrago” is no different. It has already been featured on John Lunny’s futuremusic FM on Sunday night.
Sweet oscillations softly settle as we start the journey through this new track from Fragile X. It’s a successful piece of electronic wisdom that fills the spaces in between the silences in your thoughts. It feels like a representation of pure escapism, like a wandering through a dream of stars. The light drum kicks that roll in next change the tone. It is reminiscent of classic beginnings of big dance tunes from the nineties. Then the masterful layering begins, with additional synth beats and that beautiful melodic pattern that holds the pace on the beats below.
The track moves in and out of multi-level layers, creating both interest and anticipation of what’s to come. It almost descends to nothing with a bare single fluttering of sparkled glockenspiel feel samples. The it’s after this that we see some 8-bit type sample floating in to create mystery and depth in what can only be described as a magical secret unfolding. Again, the track builds, this time with a different melody dominating at the top. Creating an almost orchestral level piece of music.
It’s not until towards the end that we hear some resemblance of vocals fading in and out. But you won’t even miss them with the creativity that’s going on in this track. Things get a little more intense as some claps, kicks and ascending arpeggios feature. The mood is almost undeterminable, and this makes for such a super charged listen. The excitement is colossal and the ending is suggestive of something more to come. You’re left with a very baron track that feels so uncertain it's simply contagious. Included in this release is a remix by Loui Cleghorn but I'll let you discover that little gem for yourself.
The release is currently available on Beatport and will be available everywhere else in 2 weeks on the 12th November. This is one not to be missed.
